Now, both technology giants are fed up with Cupertino’s legal moves and are ready to work together. The Korea Times reported that Google and Samsung have a “game-plan” against Apple that will most likely lead to a cross-licensing deal—a.k.a. both companies are out to get money from Apple. One Samsung source told The Korea Times: “It’s too early to comment on our game plan (with Google) in the legal battle; but we will do our best to get more royalties from Apple, which has benefited from our technology. The fight is becoming more dramatic and the possibility of a truce in the form of a cross-licensing deal, seems to be becoming likely.”

Samsung and Google are obviously fed up with being attacked, and they just want to move on with creating products. Google also wants to have a similar partnership with HTC. It certainly looks like Apple will have quite the Android force against them.

It'll be a powerful legal fight against Google & Samsung, and thats if HTC and LG don't join forces as well. With high profile justices also fed up with Apple's shennaggins, have they finally bit off more than they can chew? Or does that 100Bn dollar stock pile buy more lawyers and bribe more politicians?
 
Interesting, but it just sounds like legal posturing to me. If either company had a trump card, they would have played it by now. Most of patents used by Samsung and Motorola (now Google) have FRAND strings attached so they're not very useful as ammunition. Both companies are being investigated in Europe over their lawsuits with FRAND patents and in the recent Apple vs. Motorola case in the US the judge's ruling tossed out Motorola's line of reasoning for trying to get a large royalty payment.

The whole thing will be over in a few more years after Google just works around any patent that Apple wins on and no one can get a big settlement out of their FRAND patents.

I can't believe Apple targeted the Nexus, but I don't know what Google/Samsung can do in retaliation.

Why is that so hard to believe?

Apple has stated that they view Android as infringing on their patents. The [Galaxy] Nexus is an Android phone. Ergo, Apple filing a lawsuit against Samsung over the Galaxy Nexus should not come as a great surprise.

Has this ban actually taken effect? The Gnex is still being sold on the Play Store, Amazon, Newegg, and Verizonwireless.com.

Because its a disgusting thing to do that will obviously piss off a lot of people.

Nobody cared THAT much (still a little since it is a dumb ruling) when the galaxy tab got banned, but banning the Nexus caused a flurry of hate

Unless it happened today and I missed it, I'm still not aware that Apple has posted the $96m bond required to enforce the injunction.

As far as I'm aware the injunction only prohibits Samsung from selling them either directly to customers or to retailers. Retailers are free to continue selling existing stock unless Apple should also target them with an injunction, which is unlikely because most of those retailers also sell Apple products and Apple probably doesn't want to piss them off.

That, and the Tab 10.1 was pulled from store shelves ages ago and replaced with newer models, that aren't banned. 😛

Since when has Apple really cared if people get pissed off? This is a company with a long history of changing CPU architectures, operating systems, or other rules and just expecting developers to deal with it. And that's their own customers/users.

They probably couldn't care less about the people who get upset about the Galaxy Nexus getting banned. Most of them aren't Apple customers and a sizable chunk probably didn't like Apple before then either.
 
Will be interesting to see where the legal battles go - AFAIK, Samsung and Google haven't really pushed the issue against Apple because they have a lot of cross licensing and cooperation with Apple and stuff in the past. Google with Google Maps, and Samsung having sold hardware to Apple

But at point or another, you've got to figure that they'd be tired of Apple's shenanigans

I dunno, the GNex has gotten a lot of good publicity, especially lately with Jelly Bean. Plus their $350 unlocked GSM version is quite a steal for the price
 
I hear apple is investing billions on resurrecting Jobs but they wont do it until Android is destroyed.

I dunno , I think that there will eventually be a backlash against Apple for their hyper-aggressive competitiveness, similar to the backlash against Microsoft in the 90s.

Other companies do that too. Take Samsung for example with their Galaxy Note Superbowl ad taking clear punches at the iPhone. The best part after the commercial was when all the NFL players pulled out iPhones. Apple has never cared about backlash and they don't do control focus groups on their products. That tells me that they don't care that much about public views.

They don't need to... Most of the time the general public just adapts the view Apple wants them to have.

I wouldn't exactly go linking to Henry Blodget for a good opinion on Apple. He has a bit of a track record of posting some stupid things related to Apple. Personally I think he just takes contrarian viewpoints and makes hyperbolic statements for page hits, but I wouldn't take anything he says seriously.

Also, the Microsoft example isn't very good. After all, the general public got so Angry at them and stopped buying Windows. No wait, their market share is still something like 90+% and they're still pulling in billions from Windows and Office and their Xbox brand has really been taking off.

The notion that there's going to be some big backlash against Apple over this is pretty naive. The vast majority of people who make the most noise about it are the same people who don't or won't buy Apple products anyway and the general public doesn't care. If Apple were to get backlash over anything it would be their labor practices in China. That's something that will actually resonate with the general public. Two rich companies suing each other over patents isn't something most people care about.

But the whole reason a lot of people buy Apple products is the public opinion of the brand. Its 'cool' and 'hip'; the underground manufacturer fighting big boring Microsoft in the PC world and nerdy Android in the mobile world. If public sentiment starts to change regarding Apple, I can see some people switching product lines.

One month after apple resurrects Jobs Samsung will come out with a Steve Jobs clone and claim they came up with the idea on their own.

If the only reason they're buying it is because it's 'cool' and 'hip' most probably won't switch anytime soon. The vast majority of alternatives don't really fall into that category and a lot of others try so hard that it has the opposite effect. Honestly, the only way Apple loses that status is if they become the ones with 80% of the market. I think Apple would probably be okay as being viewed as 'uncool' or 'not hip' if it meant they were selling the vast majority of phones and tablets.

I feel as though there are more factors than just that in play, so I'm not even sure if I buy the premise of your argument. Also, as I've said several times before, these lawsuits aren't going to do squat about public sentiment. They've been going on for years now and Apple hasn't seen a marked decline in sales. If your line of reasoning were correct, shouldn't we have seen some massive shift by now?
