Google Adsense

Do you EVER click on Google Ads? I don't think I've clicked on any of them for 2 years now. Whenever I see Google Ads, I completely ignore it but it still pisses me off that hundreds of sites still use them and if everyone else is like me, how do they get money?

You answered your own question

I use AdSense on my website and have made like, $10 this month. Nothing great, especially since I have to make $100 before I can cash my first cheque. RossMAN, Yahoo! Ads are better?

Yahoo pays a bit more per click. However, most of the time there targeting is off. It varies from site to site.

The best solution is to try them both and see what works better for your site. However, don't use them on the same page.

It's just personal preference and after comparing both I prefer Yahoo ads. Regardless if you have a popular site with thousands of unique visitors you'll make $$$

That's about Adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing...not Adsense

If you are looking for good info on Yahoo and Google, search Sitepoint or The Admin Zone...lots of good info:

Sitepoint

Because Google is a better search engine?

I believe it's called Yahoo! Search Marketing or something like that. It's on my other computer.

The idea of cross searching like that seemed weird to me. 😉

Got on Google and searched : Yahoo Publisher Network. Seems to be what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

Here's a rough comparison of the services. Note that I have used both.

Enrollment: Both have applications, but AdSense is immediate (or almost immediate) whereas Yahoo takes 2-4 weeks (in general) and many people are rejected (remember that it is in beta).

Targeting: I'd rate AdSense at 8/10 and YPN at 4/10. Note that this is not always a bad thing. If you have a site that is in a very low paying niche, then having slightly offtarget ads is greatly beneficial to you.

Earnings: My CPM on YPN is about 5x what it was on AdSense. A couple of notes on this though. First, they are in beta and changing things around. The last few weeks have been very, very bad for me with a cpm about 1/2 off what AdSense was. It has picked up the past couple days slightly, but it is troubling. As with all things web related, it comes and goes. Second, it is in beta and the earnings are going to drop. Right now they are probably giving close to 100% to publishers to provide an incentice to stay with the program and to give them good PR. This *will* change.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me.

money flow:

Advertisers --$--> Google --$--> Your website with Adsense

advertisers sign up and promise to pay Google for a certian amount of clicks and positional advantage on search results (called Adwords). trust me, people are clicking and sites are making some money. the only thing i don't like about Adsense is how Google mandates that you never publically discuss your Adsense revenue or click through details.
