Google acquires Boston Dynamics

Might as well live it up now. Once Google, Apple and Microsoft merge to become "The Company" they will ignore the Alien threat and before you know it critters will be erupting out of your belly.

That was a merger between Weyland and Yutani.

Does this help the 'coolness factor' for Google? Probably. Will it destroy the bright future that Boston Dynamics might have had? Certainly.

And I suspect it's going to add the same value and revenue growth to Google's bottom line that Google glass is currently adding.

I came here to make this exact post.

I thought DoD and DARPA were way up Boston Dynamic's ass. Was this just a convenient way to offload taxpayer funding to an organization even more obsessed with intel than the US federal government?

Maybe their driverless car isn't working, so now they're simply going to build robotic drivers. 😛

Great, now I'm going to have a life-sized puma chasing me down the street to serve me ads.

And then a robotic puma cub will follow you home and simply watch you.

Heck, my guess as to why they're building self-driving cars is that it opens up billions of hours a year wherein they can be advertising at you, instead of you doing something that isn't generating revenue for them, like driving.
And it means that autonomous Google Street View cars could be on constant patrol.

"We're not spying on you. Google is. We're simply buying access to fiber optic lines which may or may not be transporting photons."

Except that the alien chestbursters will be covered in Doubleclick ads, because Google will have bought and integrated the alien empire prior to its arrival.

(Pop-out ads. Lulz.)

I would not worry, as soon as they come up with a cool robot, they're going to completely change it the next week and it's going to suck and be super buggy and not work like it used to. 😛

I can't think of a better way to sell insurance to soldiers than by having the robots carrying their gear giving them the hard sell 24/7.

"Hey Joe, have you thought about what will happen to your family if... "

I keep saying that Google is going to keep growing in size and sophistication until it has the power to rival the government. This acquisition is just further evidence. After the Google wars of 2050, Google will be our new government.

You may be onto something. Google and DARPA are both developing many of the same technologies.

Up next: Google and Amazon merge, and then acquire Comcast and AOL.
Next, the new conglomeration buys Apple, and then they simply wave money at Congress and the White House and tell them to go home.

They figured out the driverless car, but that can only map roads. They're going to start releasing herds of big dogs with cameras to map out of the offroad stuff that you can't see from the air with their army of drones.

So, am I the only one who has no clue who 'Boston Dynamics' is? I'm guessing it's a company that makes something stupid, as they often have stupid names that give no hint as to their purpose, generally in a douchey 'we don't need a relevant name...people will just know who we are' kinda way.

See, like, 'Boston Acoustics'...okay...I bet they make speakers or something.

'Boston Dynamic'...oh...those guys who are...dynamic...or something.

They make super scary robots are that are probably going to wind up being robotic military units that eventually murder us all.
