How do you manually check since it comes from T-mo? I think you need to be careful with the updates since the different carriers have different antennas for their bands. Maybe that's why T-mo hasn't updated yet.
You can always do a manual check in settings, system, software update. I'm on metro which is owned by TMobile and I've got the January update. So if you are on straight up TMobile then your phone should definitely have it available too.

Sure enough, there was an update that said paused. It must have hung at some point since I restart the phone every few days.

FP reader is definitely better. I've never had any battery life issues, so can't speak to that. Cell tower strength at my house seems unchanged. It is never great- usually 1-2 bars but it's always on wifi at the house for data.

Was hoping to see something related to fixes for play services wake locks I've been having.

Because I'm not too happy with battery life I'm going to order an S22 Ultra on Wednesday if I can, since I reserved for the pre order at Samsung.

I want to run that phone for 2 weeks and do the same tasks I do on the 6 pro to compare the results.

The battery life on mine really varies. Some days the screen off usage is nice and low, sometimes it's super high. It's definitely a crap shoot. This happens on days when I am in a good signal area or not.

Pretty much the best way to describe it...pretty inconsistent. I have a friend that went from pixels to an s21 ultra and his phone is well over 5hrs actual screen time daily.

He says most times it has yet to go below 50% by the time he goes to bed. Pretty much has to try to kill the battery.

I'm really not happy I will miss out on the pixel specific features. But I figured if I can buy one and give it a try, it can't hurt. I'll keep the 6 pro until I reach a decision.

Maybe it is a pro bug because I sometimes get 3 days out of my 6. I'm not a heavy user but even when I am, I get 2 days pretty easy. The thing that eats the battery on mine is driving with maps open.

The regular 6 fairs better with battery due to the screen and 90hz vs 120hz. I also think Google needs to work on the adaptive display more for efficiency.

Maps is a huge detriment on the 6 pro. If I have full 5g coverage doesn't matter, I can open maps and in 5 minutes I've lost 2-3% while navigating.

In general if I'm on mobile data with good coverage, full bars..it's either full LTE or 5g where I live, I can expect to lose about 2-5% during like a 10 minute trip while I'm away from wifi if I am actively using the phone.

I ordered a white s22 ultra 256gb. It came with the Galaxy buds pro, a 45w brick, and a flip cover case for free. I think it was $1100+ tax which wasn't bad.

Going to test drive this phone for 2 weeks and see how it does with battery life. If it does well, I'll sell my 6 pro. If not, I think Samsung has a 15 day return period.

Do you download offline maps? I pretty much covered all of NJ and NYC with one offline map. I also downloaded a few more to cover anywhere I might venture to on a weekend getaway as well. Saves battery and data

I was coming home from Costco so I turned on the navigation. I lost 2% every 10 min for 20 min. I have maps offline data for this area, I have maps set to dark mode, but brightness was nearly 100% as the sun was shining through my back window.

It's not navigation that kills my batters, but other background processes I can't see because I'm not rooted.

Definitely an unreliable battery but not maps for me

People that upgraded to the 12L beta who had issues are saying it fixed them - from wifi to Bluetooth to mobile standby battery usage. Early reports from some users at least. Which I don't have any of but am now curious to try. Well I did notice in a low signal area a lot of switching from 5G to LTE. A couple people said they noticed a lot less of that now in the same spots they were before, with the 12L update.

I usually do that when I travel overseas. But I've never done that locally.

One thing I did was load up a docker container and use battery historian on my laptop to see what could be causing at least some bad idle drain.

Nothing out of the ordinary, most of the wakelocks are often from play services or if I'm streaming music on YouTube music that's expected.

I feel this modem they used definitely contributes to worse battery life on mobile data in general unless you forced it to LTE. In addition, this is the first gen tensor processor, probably not as optimized as it should be.

I don't see an issue with my device using LTE when there isn't 5g either. Navigation in general has always been a big drain but coupled with the inefficient modem makes it worse than it should be.

I went to bed last night at 2AM and woke up at 830. My phone had gone down a grand total of 1% in just over 6 hours! Wifi was off. Very strange.

I've been reading that as well about the 12L preview release. Hopefully it does actually improve everything.

Since the February patch I've lost data twice now and it's never happened before. It shows full bars everything, wifi and mobile data but how I will know connectivity is gone, is because I'll try and load something and it just clocks.

Turning on airplane mode and toggling it back off fixes this usually but there's no telling when it goes out so it's a bit unexpected when it occurs.

Tested it last night with WiFi on - it lost 8% in the same amount of time. Why is a good wifi signal messing everything up?

I've been reading the same and im actually excited about the release. When they announced the release it seemed it was only beneficial to tablets and foldables.

I still get random network timeouts with full bar cellular but way less than it was before the January update. Fingers crossed for good success with 12L next month!

Last night with mobile data and wifi on, same place in the same bed, in 7 hours of sleeping the phone lost only 4%. I have no idea what all the variables are.

I think that's pretty good I've seen people lose anywhere from 5-10% or more. Obviously more if you use always on display. But I charge mine at night.

I think I lost 7% the one time with it face down but I was overseas with wifi and mobile data both enabled.

Some days it drains faster than others that is something I can't explain. You would think with vanilla android and no extra bloat, pixels would be just as good with battery as iPhones.

Here's hoping the tensor series 2 can improve optimizations.

I have a feeling I'll switch to the S22 ultra but I'll be just as excited next year to see what happens with pixel 7 and yes I will buy it lol.

So I've had the s22 ultra since the 22nd. I've been comparing it to the pixel 6 pro.

My first day of full charge was yesterday and it was off the charger at 7am, apps were all the same as on the 6 pro, fresh install of everything with no restore of backups or data except text messages and call history.

Usage pattern was the same as I'm working from home until middle of March. By 12am I had 30% with the s22 ultra and totaled 7hrs 12 min of screen time.

The 6 pro would be in the low 20's percentage wise and most usually max out at 5hrs and some change for screen time.

Today I used maps to navigate for 17 minutes and the S22U dropped only 3 percent vs 5-6 that the 6 pro usually would drop in that same time frame.

The S22U also has a better 5g modem. In the same areas, I constantly had full 5g bars whereas driving through that area with the pixel would constantly go from full bars, to 1-2 bars 5G, to LTE and back and forth.

Idle drain with always on display is much much better on the S22U as well. Not sure why since the Snapdragon 891 is supposed to be more power hungry but I think it handles lower efficiency tasks better.

Battery still says optimizing in settings so it's not done configuring it but the phone already told me it will put a bunch of apps in deep sleep since they haven't been used.

I love stock Android and the pixel experience but Google definitely needs to get their hardware and software in check. I always thought Samsung would be full of bloat but that wasn't the case here. It's fast, smooth, and has a ton of customization, more so than Pixel.

Personally the fact that I'm getting better battery life doing the same tasks and routines, better signal, and less idle drain, that's what I was expecting from the Pixel if they are going down the in house chip route.

Going to keep using it for the next few weeks and I think I'm going to stick with it unless something drastic happens. Then I'll be checking on the pixel 7 pro next November.

I'm starting to lean that way as well. I prefer stock Android when I use it, and I love that Pixel phones get new Android releases as soon as they're ready. But Samsung is releasing OS updates faster than it once did, and now for longer stretches of time than even Google. Combine that with One UI getting better over time and I'd say Samsung's overall package is stronger than Google's.

I'm an iPhone 13 Pro owner and I don't intend to switch, but if I had to (or could rationalize a high-end secondary phone), I'd spring for an S22+ or S22 Ultra over a Pixel 6 Pro. The regular Pixel 6 is still a good value if you can live with the limitations.

Good to know thanks for the info guys. Looking hard at the S22 ultra as my next go to. I have heard about some display bug or something along those lines. I also hear a software fix is in the works. Any experience on that front from your handsets?

How is the FP reader? that is my main complaint with the 6. Even after the updates, it is still hit or miss and slow.
