Me too. That was an easy decision at the time.

I can sell my Series 2 with lfietime for MORE than I paid for the subscription. Muahahahahahaha.

Not to mention TiVo starts recording different shows on it's own depending on the shows you record or rate.
This is hands down, my favorite feature. It's awesome. I had no idea Quantum Leap was still on somewhere, yet based on shows I had recorded, Tivo found it and recorded it as a suggestion. Same with Newsradio. I have the Tivo trained very well and it records enough stuff I like that there's always something there to watch.

It's what I'd miss most about my Tivo. You can do most everything else a Tivo does with a cable box, but the Tivo Suggestions are like magic.

Well I guess that's the end of my Tivo subscriptions. I guess I will upgrade to digital cable with a DVR

Panasonic Replay Lifetime FTW! 😀

I have an original old school ReplayTV 3060 from Mercata(dot)com a few years ago.

It still works but requires a landline phone 🙁

They aren't changing the rates for current monthly subscribers, so I'll be staying at $6.95 each per month for 2 units. I won't be happy if I have to pay lots more, though. 🙁

...and to think I was seriously considering getting a Tivo box finally...

I guess I'll look into the Comcast DVR.

Yikes, thats a little expensive for a neat interface and predictive recording. Guess i'm sticking with my SA 8300 HD....

My parents have DirecTIVO, and I think thats pretty awesome

2 HD DirecTIVO + one non-HD DirectIVO connected to the slingbox for me to watch games not on TV where I am FTW

$6/month, no extra charge for multiple DirecTIVOs (beyond what DirecTV charges for each additional receiver)

Of that $6/month, I bet TiVo themselves gets no more than $4..but if we had regular DirecTV boxes plus additional TiVo units, not only would the usage be more clunky, we would be looking at $20+$14+14= $38/month just for DVR! outrageous..

Find me one that supports cable card, I'd I'm all over it. Until then, the Series 3 is all I got 🙁

This is one of the worst moves a drowning company can do. My series 2 is probably the best thing I have ever bought but TIVO deserves to go bankrupt over this pricing.

And I run Windows media center in Vista RC2/ It is in no way as good as any stand alone DVR I have ever used. WMC is horrible actually but that is the only thing I have to record OTA HD.

Yeah, that's the best thing you can do when you're losing customers like an opened drain plug...raise your prices!

FIOS TV for the win! 🙂

I have DirecTV and they gave me the DVR box free since I have been with them for almost 7 years after my contract was over. I pay like $6.00 a month.

I cant believe that I dont use DVR or pay for such things as TIVO. My VCR/ DVD combo has paid for itself a gazillion times over.

Your VCR records in high-definition?

comcast HD DVR here for $10/month, which is subsidised by rebates. Thanks to double/triple rebate dipping, my net cost for comcast Digital cable w/ HD DVR and 6mbps High speed internet is about $15/month. I had Tivo up until I bought a 32" HDTV for $299. Tivo had to go after that, although I do miss the simple and eqasy tivo menus.

OK grandpa. Can you excite us with a stirring "Back in my day" story too? 🙂

it's still $12.95 per month for a 3 year contract
who would commit to a 3 year contract with a company that has had 2 price plan changes in 2 years.

I hate the interface for the comcast box. After you've used TiVo it just doesn't compare. 🙁

I've had both for years (at separate times) and really don't see any huge advantage for one over the other.

My Comcast HD-DVR is much faster than my Tivo was though.
