Man, that stinks. I picked up a dual-tuner 80 gig this past summer and got the 3-year plan at about $8.31 a month. Unless they lock in the rates for when your contract ends, I'll be going with a Cox DVR :p For those of you wondering about Tivo vs. HTPC, here are some pros/cons to Tivo:

Pros:
Rarely crashes (has locked up on me once or twice since I bought it this past summer)
Auto-updates itself
Easy interface (my wife didn't need me to explain how to use it)

Cons:
Monthly fee
Slow GUI

Tivo is an appliance. An HTPC is a multi-function computer. I like Tivo because it's easy, it "just works", and my wife can use it without any training from me. If you want a TV toaster, get a TV. If you want to play games, burn DVDs of your shows, and otherwise do PC-related stuff in addition to recording TV, get an HTPC.

I wonder what this will do to the resale price of a lifetime Series 2 box. I might be selling mine soon.
