The game has an 80 on Metacritic. That doesn't sound like a lot of hate to me.
The game is like getting unfairly criticized for things IMO.

Like yes, the game is not perfect at all, but some of these things like the NPCs, the "no music in the desert", etc, just seem to be getting blown out of proportion IMO. I read and watched a lot of reviews before I picked it up because I was super on the fence about it due to the open world thing and getting it on Switch 1.

I looked at some in-depth reviews discussions of the game and won't be picking it up. It may be called Metroid Prime 4, but as far as I'm concerned it's wearing the franchise as a skin suit and is not a Metroid title.

Someone said a bunch of the former 343 people who ruined Halo were responsible for this abomination. If there need to be more layoffs in the video game industry I know exactly where they can start.

Nintendo Japan needs to take the series back. They may not have much experience with developing that kind of game, but I believe that they'd at least ensure that nothing like that awful slop would be released onto the market.

I'm probably 10 hours into Metroid Prime 4 and it is fantastic. If you liked previous ones, I highly recommend it.

And it looks great on OG Switch.

I feel like I got whiplash reading these last two posts back to back.

I enjoy Metroid games for the often solemn environments and exploration of them along with progression unlocking new parts of those levels.

The game may play well enough but it looks like they destroyed the vibe. Annoying dude characters and a pointless open world aren't what I want out of the game.

It's entirely possible for some people to like what the game is, but it's not something I want and I'm not going to support it financially.

It definitely has a lot of that still. It's just that the environments aren't connected right next to each other now. But you will still run into parts of each area you can't access until you have a later ability.

I personally would have been 100% perfectly fine without the tacked on open world stuff, but I am having more fun with that part than I expected to because I hated it when I heard about it and saw the videos of it before I got it.

And you probably see other "dude character" less than 5% of the entire time you are playing the game.

Wrapped up Metroid Prime 4 last night and really enjoyed it. I could 100% have done without the whole Viola and open world part, and I honestly think they tacked that whole part onto the game because the game was going to be like 8 hours long without it, and maybe they did not have time to design and add more actual dungeons or something. I dunno it just felt like everything about it was half assed, from the way it drove, to the combat on it, to the way the crystals broke when you ran into them, to how bare it was out there although it had a few things to do.

That said, they sure as shit know how to make you want to run into those god damn green crystals. Every time I saw one I had to go smash it and the sound it makes when you do is so satisfying as well lol. I didn't really get bored driving around from place to place because you would find shit to drive through, and I actually never had to "farm" the crystals either. By the time I was ready to go to the final part of the game I had more than enough of them from just going back/forth to places and exploring the entire map.

The NPCs don't play nearly as large of a role as they make it seem from the complaints about it. I also think some of the weapons are kinda "meh" especially the power ups you get for them. I really only used one of the maxed out weapons for the most part, and then the other 2 I really used one of the like 90% of the time and the other one like 5% of the time. The missles were used a bit until I got the other abilities though.

I thought the final boss was WWWAAAYYY harder than any other boss in the game. I didn't die once at any other boss and then the final boss kicked my ass for a bit. But then after I actually figured out how to fight the final boss and counter each part, it was one of the easiest bosses lol. When I finally beat him I had like 75% health left.

Overall it was a great game and I highly recommend it if you like previous Metroid Prime games. Yes it's not 100% like the others (never played 3 actually) but it definitely feels like Metroid Prime that you know most of the time.

Have had this system for seven months and haven't touched it once for six after 100%ing DK Bananza. Though I did buy the Zelda game where you get to play as the Princess and have to save Zelda when it hit $30 so I suppose I should play that at some point.

I suppose I’ll get DK Bananza after I finish my SW1 backlog.

Some positive news, I ordered a switch 2 because of this update. I have a lot of switch 1 games and this update makes the upgrade worthwhile
I feel like this is the real news for me. I use Airplane mode all the time when my Switch 2 isn't docked.
  • The following features were added to Airplane Mode:
    • When Airplane Mode is activated, the previously set preferences for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or NFC while in Airplane Mode will be saved and applied.
    • Added the ability to individually enable or disable Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or NFC during Airplane Mode from the Quick Settings.

Game is pretty fun but also pretty "meh" at the same time. You will only use a handful of items the entire game, and the menu system to pick the item you want to use is AWFUL.

Saw that Nintendo is (finally?) raising the price of physical versions of first party games, starting with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. eg: the MSRP for Yoshi should be $60 digital and $70 physical.

You got that backwards.

They are dropping the price of the digital versions by $10.
