There is a Nintendo Direct tomorrow but it is focused on third parties.
Guess all I'm interested in then is if there is a new Megaten or a new Dragon Quest since those tend to be timed exclusives for Nintendo. Otherwise anything third party I'm getting for PS5, Steam, or GOG since I rarely played my Switch 1 handheld after the first year and haven't played my Switch 2 handheld period.

new Dragon Quest
Don't count on that. Dragon Quest 12 is still in the works, but it has reportedly been delayed and there's been an alleged "change of scope":

Horii says he's still working on it so it'll happen eventually. But tomorrow/later today? Ehhhhh maybe not.

Definitely wanted the system before August 1st anticipating Dotard's tariffs increasing the price, and sure enough August 3rd a bunch of Nintendo's products are going way up in price. They held the line for now on Switch 2 but basically said to expect price increases for it in the future too. Wonder if they stockpiled systems ahead of August 1st here like they did for launch.

Finished the main story of DK Bananza and it was amazing, easy 9.5/10 game. Not as good as Super Mario Odyssey but not too far behind it. The very late game really has some massive frame drops though down to like 5-10 fps at times when there is a lot of stuff on the screen.

Does it have a ton of content that opens up after you beat it like Mario Odyssey did?

I know it's supposed to have a bunch of extra bananas to find but I'm not sure about new levels like Odyssey. It sent me back to the beginning after the credits rolled. From the r/NintendoSwitch2 reddit it sounded like it has a significant postgame but I quit reading because of spoilers.

Turns out there is supposed to be a new level but I haven't gotten there yet. Gotta say I'm not too thrilled by the post game content so far though. Lots of time trials which are my least favorite part of the game. And worse than that they're often stacked back to back to back. So do 13 time trials in a row on one of the challenges and if you fail one it's go all the way back to the first.

Yeah having time trials as the post game content is lame and I'd be bored with that stuff. Those were my least favorite levels in Astrobot in the DLC stuff.

I suspect that I'm going to be done with Bananza's postgame. One of the big postgame story missions I got to last night is just a sequence of five annoying time trials one with one of the bananza forms and I don't think I'm gonna waste my time with it. Base game is amazing and I really love what they did with Pauline. But the postgame is not in the same ballpark with Odyssey, not even the same sport as Odyssey. Still definitely think it was worth the $63 I spent for it (at Costco) and I got 70+ awesome hours out of the game and highly recommend it.

I'm sure it's good but I still have no interest in Switch 2 right now just because nothing is a "must play" in my book. Even after seeing videos of it since it's been out the DK game doesn't look that interesting to me. The whole "break everything" gimmick seems like it would get old quick. The $500 tag of the console and $80/$70 games also isn't helping me rush out to get one.

The new Kirby racing game did nothing to help that either lol. I'm a bit baffled that they are putting out another kart racer as their 3rd first party title. Two out of their three titles will be kart racers. Just kind of odd.

Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if it's a $600 system by the time the game library starts maturing with half a dozen high end exclusives like PS4 had by 2017 but as Kyle Kulinski says, we live in hell right now. But yeah not sure I buy anything more for Switch 2 this year. Might give Metroid Prime a try on Dolphin and see if I like the series enough to pay $70 or $80 for Metroid Prime 4 but aside from that there isn't anything on the system I'm too interested in. Mario Kart World ain't bad but it's one of those pick up play for ten minutes kind of games.

Though I guess if they drop Mario Galaxy 2 for the Mario 40th Anniversary this year I'll probably buy that, as I never have gotten my Wii Mote to work worth a crap in Dolphin as bluetooth sucks so much on Windows.

Decided to try to 100% Bananza once I found one of the most frustrating time challenge became doable for me by switching from the joycons to the Pro Controller. Still think split joycons are the best way to play Bananza for the haptics but for the postgame challenges I'm definitely way better at them with the Pro Controller. Well the Switch 1 Pro Controller, can't say I'm excited about dropping $100 for the Switch 2 Pro Controller when it's supposed to be so similar.
