Goodbye Socket A....

Socket A processors in themselves werent amazing but in their lifetime, they showed AMD's continuing competancy at bringing out a processor to challenge Intel carrying on from Slot A.

What really made Socket A so special for me was my NForce2 board. ABIT NF7-S Rev 2.0. The power to harness and tame the 1700+ DLT3C and the Mobile Bartons and push them to the limit, packing the features sought by many such as SATA RAID and bringing some rarely equalled features (Soundstorm) on even standalone cards.

I wont say my farewells to Socket A for my gaming rig until about 8+ months time. I may keep my NF7-S around for an HTPC sort of design.

A testament to AMD's prowess and Nvidia's newfound chipset making skills.

hm interesting seems like most people are still using socket a. i'll be using my mobile for a long ass time (even if i ever upgrade to the athlon 64) as the underclocking/undervolting abilities are amazing.

My kids' NF7-S with nV APU and 2200+ 35w@2.5ghz has more sentimental value to me than I could hope to sell it for, so sktA will be around my house a good while yet, regardless of wether it is on the LAN or packed away.

Sigh, I know what you guys mean. I've been running the good ol' Barton 2500+ @ 3200 (2.2) for about a year and a half now. Have had a 9500Pro for a little while longer. Its time to upgrade. I don't know if I'll get rid of it, maybe I'll give it to my son or it can be used as an office comp...

<---Just finished playing Psychonauts on 2000+ machine and currently working on KOTOR 2 on 1.3 GHZ Athlon! These procs rule!

My little AXP 2400+ mobile @ 2.2GHz (motherboard won't allow for high FSB 🙁) with default voltage plays my games great! It'd be nice to have a 4800+, but my little mobile chip is running things very nicely for me. 🙂 My little 6800GT helps out in games too. 🙂

great run, never will forget the 1700+ DLT3C OCing craze

I still run one. I had it up to 2.5ghz...best cpu I ever owned

Yeah those were great CPU's I ran mine at 192x12.5 = 2.4GHz, 192 was as high as my old PC2100 from Crucial would run. The CPU still had a bit of juice left so I bet it could have gotten to 2.5 no problem.

sigh great CPU for $50...

4 computers in the house. All are socket A - 4 nForce2's, and a KT133A. I don't see that changing for quite some time.

4 PC's - all socket A

4 Nforce 2s + 1 KT133A? 😀

Getting too emotional over a revolutionary socket? 😀

Although I plan on keep my couple of Socket A Puters it's getting time to move on to bigger, better, faster, and yes more expensive things ! 😀

Yup. I had a Duron in Socket A, a thunderbird 1Ghz, an XP 1700+ and an XP 2600+. I thought about keeping my motherboard a little longer but I went all out and built a 754 system from scratch.

My ASUS A7N8X is still running my office computer.

Socket A was also my best argument in the x86 vs. Apple debates.
Where else can you only upgrade your CPU and still move between about 4 generations of computing?

I think I'll buy my mom an eMachine for Xmas. They have an A64 system for about 500 bucks.
