Socket A processors in themselves werent amazing but in their lifetime, they showed AMD's continuing competancy at bringing out a processor to challenge Intel carrying on from Slot A.
What really made Socket A so special for me was my NForce2 board. ABIT NF7-S Rev 2.0. The power to harness and tame the 1700+ DLT3C and the Mobile Bartons and push them to the limit, packing the features sought by many such as SATA RAID and bringing some rarely equalled features (Soundstorm) on even standalone cards.
I wont say my farewells to Socket A for my gaming rig until about 8+ months time. I may keep my NF7-S around for an HTPC sort of design.
A testament to AMD's prowess and Nvidia's newfound chipset making skills.
