I think only the biggest malls will still be opened in 15 years unless they are able to convert all these big department stores to movie theaters or non retail. This mall around me converted a closed Bed Bath Beyond into a fitness gym and another place into a bowling alley which has an arcade like Dave and Busters.

Sears, Macy's do not drive enough traffic at one location plus most people drive to the best stocked location in their area. Closing 50% of the stores will stop the hemorrhaging.

Bright point... some of these abandonded JcPenney and Sears locations are going to make great tampoline parks and Laser Tag arenas!

I love JCP $10 off $10 coupons. As a matter of fact, I used two of them yesterday for several shirts (t shirts and polo shirts) on red tag clearance section and the average price was about $1/each. Not bad at all.

Back to Sears, I drove past by the local Sears at the mall a few days ago and the parking lot was almost empty. Not a good sight.

A few weeks ago, they were giving off scratch-off coupons when you walked in. They were for $10 off $10, $20 off $20...and I scored a $100 off $100 :D

Of course, I was with my wife and she went *GOINK!* and bought herself a new coat...but it was cool while I had it.

Our local dying indoor mall was (and still is) being remodeled. It had a Sears as one of the remaining anchor tenants, and the new mall's owner negotiated with them to close and leave. They didn't want them there. They tore down the Sears and half of the rest of the mall. Now the mall is half the size and is still half empty. But the new mall owner gets to build a few hundred apartment units on the land, which is what they were really after.

JC Penney's moved out of the same mall about ten years before, and they tore that store down as well. The Penney's moved to a standalone location in an abandoned ShopKo along the main drag.
