The combination of kids and the physical game size is driving me crazy. They keep losing them. It never felt like such a large issue with the kid's 3ds since I never played it and the majority of the games purchased were used and under $10. New switch games at $60 and them losing them is driving me crazy.

Slightly off topic but where are you getting used DS games for $10? When I look for good used DS games, like the Castlevania or Pokemon series, they seem to have held their price. In fact, some of them are more expensive than they used to be.

Castlevania games seem to start at about $70 or so - talking about used DS games. Not talking about pristine games that were never opened, just regular used games. Hideously expensive!

He was saying 3DS games, those are pretty easy to find used cheap. But yeah DS games are expensive AF.

Anyone get Kirby Star Allies? Debating picking it up today or not since I have a flight tomorrow, although it's only going to be about an hour each way lol.

EDIT:

Just picked it up. I played the demo and it seemed fun so why not.

I pre-ordered Smash. If Dark Souls Remastered is offered for free to existing PC users (which I doubt), then I might pick it up on the Switch.

It's easy, but it's a fun game. Probably a bit expensive for what it is, but it's a nice low-impact (practically zen-like) game I can play in the evenings without having to remember what the heck was going on or how to play the darned thing. Kirby games never top the sales charts or the review charts, but there's a reason they're so popular.🙂

So the only thing for Switch that's coming out soon that I care about that actually has a release date (I don't count games that have no release date yet since the time frames easily change) is Hyrule Warriors. There's nothing coming out on Switch soon that I really care about since I have a PS4. I think we all knew this year was going to be a drought of new exclusive Switch games.

No interest in Project Octopath Traveler coming in July?

Yeah I played for like 75 minutes on my flight and it's way too easy. It's too easy to the point it's kind of boring. There's just absolutely no challenge. And the whole "power up" thing is just weak all around. I'll probably beat it and then sell it for like $30. It definitely has it's charm.

Kirby’s epic yarn was exactly the same way. I mean death had no penalty at all

Not me personally when there's so much to play on other consoles. I'm thinking about getting it for my fiancée as she loves those kinds of RPG's.

As much as I want that game and Super Mario Odyssey, the game I'm truly waiting for is Shin Megami Tensei V. When that comes out I'm buying a Switch 100% unless I'm cold in the ground. Sadly I doubt SMT V is coming before 2020 considering they just went into full production a few months ago. But yeah it's disappointing how weak their 2018 lineup is looking.

Because they put all their eggs into their first year which for the Switch has obviously paid off but yea this is a lean year unless the Switch is your only modern console.

Is anyone else pumped to hear about the news that the Secure ROM for the Switch has been hacked?

I hope that this will finally allow third party developers to develop games and applications for this platform without Nintendo's blessing or their insane restrictions. It kinda pisses me off that it's been out for over a year now, and it's still so locked down that I can't use it to do something as simple as watch YouTube videos.

Nintendo has always been very selective of what they allow though.

It still annoys me, though. The thing is basically an NVidia Tegra powered tablet, but what you can actually DO with it has been completely neutered in software. You know that it's bad when you use something like an Apple iPad as a favorable comparison, even though it has it's own walled garden for software selection.

Again, they seem to be doing pretty well with the Switch specifically. I'm ok with there being some standard for releasing a game on Switch - wouldn't want the Eshop getting flooded with asset flips like Steam.

Artificial limitations may be a thing, but who stands to actually benefit and be able to max out the Switch's power? AAA publishers? You're not going to see any of them release games that only work on jailbroken Switches.

I'm of two minds about it. On one hand, it's kind of ridiculous to have like zero third-party features in a world where you can buy a multi-function Amazon tablet for $49, but on the flip side, it's also surprisingly nice having it JUST be a "game-only" device, much like the original Gameboy. And super-nice for kids because if you're trying to limit either screen-time or gaming time, you're only taking away their gaming system & nothing else. Anyway, Ars has details & updates:

And hilariously, they are running the Dolphin emulator on Linux. Here's Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker on the Switch, lol:

Oh boy:

https://fail0verflow.com/blog/2018/shofel2/

So basically you get into the Tegra X1's rescue mode and then run a USB-based exploit to make the magic happen. It's a tethered trick right now, so it has to be re-done every time you boot up, and has to be re-done via USB. Files here:

Special notes:
Per the group: "If your Switch catches fire or turns into an Ouya, it's not our fault. It's stupidly easy to blow up embedded platforms like this with bad software (e.g. all voltages are software-controlled). We already caused temporary damage to one LCD panel with bad power sequencing code. Seriously, do not complain if something goes wrong."

Aye. Sometimes it's nice to have a device that does just one thing and does it well. The iPad is nice for its versatility, but it also does a half-assed job with many of its tasks; a true jack of all trades and master of none.

Thinking about getting a switch now. It's been years since I played a Zelda game..I mean over a decade. I see GameStop has the bundle for $359 but I have a $100 Amazon gift card yet Amazon doesn't have the same bundle. Only bundles I see on there are overpriced.

Is Mario odyssey also worth it? I think if I do get one I'll only end up with these two games.
