Goodbye my friend

I had to put my dog Ted to sleep today. It was the right thing to do but it doesn't lessen the pain I feel right now. He lived a great life and died a good death. He was 13 and had congestive heart failure.

:'(

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Sorry to hear. 🙁

It must be really hard to make that decision and go through that. You did do the right thing, often any other option is simply not viable given the chances of survival and suffering. Sometimes there is no other option.

Looks like he lived a long life which is good... but it was his time. 🙁 Pets become part of the family, and it's hard to let go.

sorry man, that is so hard. i fear that we will have to do the same to my dog soon (shes really old, but has led a good life) and i cant imagine how difficult that would be. 🙁

R.I.P.

I'll drink a shot in honor of your hound tonight.

sorry for your loss, I cant imagine, lucy, my first dog getting old, she still is mistaken for a puppy and she is 6 years old

Hang in there. My family recently put down our 13 year old golden retriever Bailey. He was a great dog, lived such a privileged life and couldn't have been a better pooch all around. His health failed really fast, he seemed his normal happy, if not slow in his old age, self until he had an odd seizure thing in the yard. Within 12 hours he couldn't even stand up, we carried his 80lbs up and down the stairs and outside all night.

Nothing is more heartbreaking then seeing your trusty old guy unhappy and knowing what you are going to have to do. My dad is German and an engineer, emotions are not his forte but this tore him up. We found a great couple who came to our house to put him down so he could just be comfortable in his favorite spot, much preferred over draggin him to a cold metal table.

It's the most humane thing you can do, people should be so lucky to drift off like that. I know where you're at though, just know he was happy and you did the best thing for him.

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.

Sorry for your loss 🙁
