I just finished reading the preview in April's Xbox mag and this game looks awesome. It sounds like a cross between GTA3 (except your a cop), Max Payne, and maybe a little Dead to Rights.

They recreated L.A. from satellite images, geographical maps, pictures and videos. It's 300 square miles of real-time driving around if you want to explore it all. They say if you know your way around LA, you'd know your way around the game :Q

-It has the driving elements from GTA3 since you can jump out of your car at any time and take another one, except you're a cop so you can get away with a lot more I'd assume.
-It has a shooting system similar to May Payne apparently
-It also has a fighting system with combos and other skills that you can purchase/learn as you earn points.
-Has some RPG elements. As you drive around to complete the main missions there is endless (randomly generated) side crimes going on that you can go do at any time to get more points/cash which can be used to purchase new things and new skills
-Voice talents from people such as Gary Oldman :Q

Last but not least it supports both 480p and 720p resolutions on the Xbox version in 16:9 widescreen!! That's 720x480 and 1280x720 progressive! With no slowdown on the 720p version either. It's also coming out for PS2 but chances are that'll just be 480i (interlaced).

Supposed to come out this spring sometime.

Only for the PS2 and Xbox? I'm not going to get my hopes up...the most successful crossover genre games that I've ever seen are ones like Battlefield 1942 and Battlezone which really do everyone poorly to barely mediocre. Regardless, nice to see some more anticipated titles for the Xbox on way.

Sounds cool, but I kinda like being the head of the mafia. How about helicopters? That was one of my favorite things to drive/fly in gta3:vice.

Man, 1280x720 16:9 is gonna be sick once I get my HDTV later this year. :D:D

There was no mention of vehicles other than cars/trucks/etc, but they aren't trying to recreate GTA3/GTA:VC. GTA just influenced many aspects of the game.

I'll check the reviews, then maybe rent this. Could possibly buy it, but I've got to be convinced its as good as GTAIII/VC.

It's going to need:

The humor of the GTA series. In the "Cop land" mission of Vice City, I was cracking up at Tommy's comment about the police uniform being "a little tight in the crotch though."

The open-endedness of the GTA games. Sure, you had to complete a few missions to unlock the whole world, but once you did that, you were basicly on your own to do whatever you wanted

The radio stations. There's nothing like blasting through a highrise office building's window on a bike while "Sister Christian" is blasting through the speakers.

IMO, all they need for me to buy this game is a fully driveable LA. I know LA like the back of my hand, and if they truly have 300 square miles of it (downtown to santa monica, I'm guessing) mapped, then I could just play that for hours and hours. No actual gameplay necessary. :)

arg well he's a cop right? In just about any high speed pursuit in LA involves a helicopter. Also it's just fun to fly at street level :D

True Crime: Streets of LA @ IGN.com:
In terms of technology, a huge focus for the development team is minimizing load times. Mashing around LA without having to auto-pause while the game loads up the next chunk of town, is a bigger deal than it sounds. Everything streams directly from the disc in the PS2 and GameCube versions of the game, so that a trip from Hollywood to Santa Monica takes roughly continuous minutes. We've seen all of this in action with 60% complete version of the PS2 game. Xbox owners will appreciate the fact that Kang can should be able to go from multi-tiered indoor locations, outside to the street, hop in a car and make that same Hollywood to Santa Monica trip without pausing to load once.

I'd buy an Xbox just to be able to drive in LA w/o traffic ;)

This game sounds really cool. It's being released for Xbox,Ps2 and GC. xbox should be better?

Of course...since the game itself will be equal, get the Xbox one if you have ab HDTV or ever plan on getting one. 480p Xbox games loooks spectacular on a HDTV, I can't even imagine a 720p game.
