Looks like www.gamespy.com will be closing their doors permanently :(

I am said because that site has been a big part of my daily routine for the past decade and change. I fully understand it's a business thing, but it's always disappointing to see this sort of thing happen. Anyone else saddened by this news like I am?

Honestly, I wont miss them. It annoyed the hell out of me a few years ago when every other game i installed prompted me to "install gamespy arcade" or you couldn't do multiplayer.

Their game server listings were very useful back around 1999 - 2000, but it's been many years since I've visited their site or (willingly) used their services.

I guess I'll miss them, not too sure. Its funny revisiting the site today reminds me of its early years when reviews were snarky and trust worthy.

Sorry to see it close, but I have to say I haven't looked at them much. Looks like a lot of nice content.

I won't miss them, I was forced to use Gamespy for a couple online games and the experience was pretty awful in every way.

Yeah, can't say I will miss them either. I remember using Quakespy in the mid 90's. Then that evolved into Gamespy in the late 90's. Those were two great programs...

...but then they were bought out and were simply "clones" of every IGN site there is. I haven't even been to the Gamespy site in a decade.

Agreed. Without these services, multiplayer gaming wouldn't be where it is today. Quakeworld plus Quakespy was the bomb.

I used it back in the Quake days, kinda sad to see it go but I haven't used it in a decade or thereabouts.

Man, what good gaming sites are left but gamespot?

Most gaming magazines are gone with mainly PC Gamer left.

See, replace text adventures with FPS, and the gamers forget how to read.

Maybe it's time to subscribe to the gamestop magazine...

Quoted so more people can see this.

This has nothing to do with Gamespy multiplayer servers shutting down. That's not happening. Rather, this is about GameSpy, the gaming news website. They've had a lot of really good content just over the past year or two, so it's sad to see them shutting down.
