We've been loyal DirecTV subscribers for over 5 years. With all the specials Dish Network is advertising right now, we decided to try to get our DirecTV provider to do us a deal to keep us on with them. We're in a very rural area and not served directly by DirecTV but by a subsidiary....Pegasus Satellite.

We have been online and Dish is offering 3 rooms setup with the 100 hr. DVR for essentially free and 4 months of programming for free (actually a $49.99 rebate on each monthly bill for four months). And the Dish programming package, while $3 a month more than DirecTV's comparable package, includes quite a few channels DirecTV only offers as a premium set. And it's installed free, too. I know, it's nothing ot install these things....we did our own DirecTV setup, but heck, free installation for 3 rooms? Can't pass that up.

So, the Pegasus CSR says, "Sorry, we're not authorized to do any matching of Dish's package......we'll sell you a TIVO for $100, and that's $100 less than our retail price, but no free service, yada, yada, yada."

So, screw you Pegasus. You'd rather lose a long-term loyal customer than bend a bit and give what Dish is giving right now. Oh well.....the Dish installer is going to be here this afternoon.

Anyone want a "slightly used" RCA DirecTV dish and receiver?

You could probably make a nice profit with that DTV reciever on ebay.

You'll like DishNetwork. If you don't want stuff like NFL Sunday Ticket, it's every bit as good as DirectTV.

Never even ever considered buying the NFL or NHL or any other sports ticket package.....don't get me wrong, I like football, baseball, hockey, etc. But I'm usually busy on weekends and even taping/recording them, I don't think I'd ever get around to watching the games, especially after hearing the scores.....and no matter how much you try to avoid hearing them, you always do. Seems like a way to blow some bucks on TV I'd never use.

I don't miss many playoff games, but since the vast majority are on network, I don't pay for them anyway.

As an aside, Pegasus/DirecTV doesn't and won't offer local network programming out our way and we have to rely on a rather large outdoor TV antenna to get the local channels......but we're very fringe and our reception isn't the greatest on some channels. Dish, on the other hand, offers ALL our local channels and several out of Atlanta (we're 75 miles NW of Savannah, GA.....and 75 miles SE of Augusta, GA, so we're real fringe for both "local" channel sources. Another bennie from Dish that Pegasux refuses to offer.

I'm also in an area served by Pegasus, & they really suck, rarely any deals, & they won't negotiate anything.

Really pissed me off when I realized I couldn't even get one of the free IRD's that they give away @ BB, etc...

We have one of the PVR IRD's through Dish, it's awesome.

I see all these deals for 3 and 4 rooms setups lately. Are they doing this now because they charge like $5 or something extra every month for each extra receiver?

EDIT: What receiver model is it? :)
