Meh.. This is not good news. After CompUSA and Circuit City now biting the dust, all that remains around here is Best Buy. Lack of competition is never a good thing.

Very true. Newegg should open retail stores... that'll fix it. 😛

We're starting to see more HH Gregg stores open up though. I haven't been in one yet.

They suck.

No movies, no games. Just TV's, beds and fridges and freezers basically.

And their prices suck also.

I knew this was going to happen. CC use to be good 15 years ago or so, there selection over the years declined and they usually had limited stock at times.

One thing they did do that I will miss is price match anyone online or local, BB won't price match online stores who don't have a local storefront. CC would also go a step better and take off an extra % below the competitors price.

These "liquidations" are a joke.

They don't reduce the prices by jack shit.

Depends how the liquidation is handled. There's a couple liquidation companies out there that do in fact jack with prices the night before the liquidation process. They put higher priced stickers on there to bring the "after discount" price almost to the same level as the everyday retail price, if not actually higher.

And yeah, it is a sham, but any buyer that does their homework knows this.
Definitely.
Even clearance sales vary by store. Sometimes it's a 15% off clearance sale. Other times, they REALLY want Item X off the shelves in a hurry, so it's 80%+ off. My curtains, lamps, pillow covers, and sheets were all bought at Kmart on clearance, including a "50% off the clearance price" sale. Some stuff went from $30 down to $6 or less.
Walmart seems to be more likely to have clearance sales that are laughable, where an employee's 10% discount would have netted more savings.

A hardware store near where my grandfather lives also had a damn good going-out-of-business sale. They wanted that store emptied completely. Some parts were being sold by the bin-full at a huge markdown.

CompUSA is still around and have 23 stores total in Florida and 3 other states plus Puerto Rico.

Hell yeah. Best Buy Reward Zone + Gamer Reward Zone rocks. Plus, they always have those 10%/12% Reward Zone coupons.

YAY!!!!

I'm happy now.

I used to like CC, but this past weekend changed my opinion to hating them. My gf and I were looking for a Wii, and the employee told us to be back at 11 am the next day for the shipment they were getting of them. We go okay, got up around 9, had breakfast, and got there about 10:20 am. While talking to another couple there, the other girl sees a note in their glass that says they passed out all the Wii vouchers already. WTF? Apparently they passed out vouchers starting at 8 am.... I have never heard of any store doing that, and they should have done it to the line starting around 10:30 (like normal stores).

I'm glad they are going under, and will be crusing mine for deals 🙂

Man, this sucks. Circuit City had its problems but it was a far better store than Best Buy.

In the grand scheme of things, however, this doesn't matter much either way. Any reasonably intelligent shopper avoids both stores if he wants anything resembling a good deal.

I hear of stores doing this all the time.... They see x number of people lined up and have x number of consoles... might as well make it easy.

Well, the name still exists, but its not the same company. Tiger Direct bought the name and reopened a handful of stores with the name. But that doesn't affect the 99% of the stores that no longer exist.

While not a big fan of CC, they did actually have a decent Home Stereo dept. I will miss that. I usually go to J & R in NYC, but CC had a decent hi-fi section.

I can't wait until Fry's expands to NJ. 🙁

Yes I know, I'm in South Florida and know the history. I been to one of there local stores here a few times and it's not 100% like the original.

It'll probably take a week or two at this point. They probably won't start dropping prices until all of new shipments are in and accounted for.
