Arlen Specter lost the PA dem primary to Joe Sestak tonight. And all I can say is DON'T LET THE DOOR HIT YOUR ASS ON THE WAY OUT!

Specter is the absolute worst kind of political hack life politician who has never done anything real, he has just suckled off the people of America for 30 years.

He is a mean old cuss, and with his party flip flop, proved that he is nothing more than a self serving, piece of shlt.

Specter and all politicians like him are nothing more than walking human excrement.

I somewhat disagree with Jadow, even as a Partisan democrat, I have always had some respect for people like Specter and Dan Burton who think for themselves and don't follow any political party line.

But I can still take some pleasure in a Specter loss, IMHO, 80 years old is too damn old to run for re election.

Don't count Specter out yet. He may have not won either the Democratic primary or the Republican nod, but he could still run as an independent.

Watch for Obama to offer Specter an ambassadorship somewhere to give Sestak a clear field.

Uh, no he can't.

The law in Pennsylvania says if you lose a party primary, you are barred from running as a member of another party in that general election. (I.E. as an Independent.)

Gotta love the irony in it all! Specter quits the Republican Party because he feels the party voters are moving too far to the extremes for him to be able to win the primary...

Then he gets kicked out of the Democratic primary as their party voters too are moving further toward the extremes.

That's really interesting. There is no such thing as an Independent Party in PA. Can he run as an individual candidate without any party affiliation? Perhaps as a write-in candidate? Also, this is a federal job, wouldn't the federal rules apply?

Often a smaller Party, like the Greens, Socialists, Communists choose to also nominate a major Democrat candidate when they don't have someone to take the reins, so an individual can be on the ballot as being a Communist and a Democrat in most places. In PA as well?

I think Specter is finished with this election cycle, but I did not hear him say that he endorsed Sestak and promise his support (was on MSLSD at the time he gave his concession speech,) so it may be that he has a backup plan in mind. He also has a significant kitty of funds available in the bank to support an independent run.

it would be nice to see him run as an independent.

it's really a kick in the nuts that voters keep on voting out moderates no matter how much they may wish for more bipartisanship in Washington.

you can't cry about polarization in one breath and then reject everyone who doesn't pass some kind of purity test in the next.

Sestak already has a clear field, unless you count that Specter-shaped speed bump in his rear view mirror. Obama might offer Specter an ambassadorship to convince him to turn loose some of that general election campaign cash though.

And who the hell is wishing for more bipartisanship in Washington? Only the media and the Democrat Party, who both define bipartisanship as Republicans voting for bills that the Democrats (or their lobbyists) crafted in locked rooms. Most of us are praying for sweet, blessed gridlock.

So because a moderate Republican driven out of the Republican party by rightwing extremism loses the Democrat primary, that means Dems are moving further to the left?

Specter absolutely hates the conservative Republican nominee, Toomey, for continually challenging him while he was still in the Repub Party, so I know he will not throw any support that way. Even if Specter decides not to pursue elected office, that pile o' cash can make him kind of a king maker.

You should know better... You know damn well that Democrats have tried time and time again to get Republican votes, which meant including a LOT of Republican ideas and ammendments to the major bills over the past year. And Republicans choose to do the politically expedient thing and vote "no", even on things they themselves proposed in the early 90s!!

The times, they are a-changin'!

From Robert Allen Zimmerman -

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

Completely wrong.

He lost the Dem primary because the regular working class and middle class Democrats correctly viewed him for what he is, a rank opportunist who could never be trusted and not a true Dem.

If you view Admiral Sestak as an extremist, I've got a cot in spidey's bunker reserved just for you.

Just a little partisan hackary, don't take things so seriously. I don't believe voters of either party are purifying the parties taking them to the extremes. But any way you look at it, the very reason he left the Republican Party is the very reason he ended up losing this election :D
