That page is brutal, i didnt realize GOG was so shady. I only have a few dozen games from GOG but wont be purchasing any more if they lie and cheat people by advertising features that arnt in the game you get from GOG only the steam version.

That's a very helpful thread, but I wouldn't be too hard on gog. They should notate some issues in the game description - but some of the issues aren't fair (such as, 'there was a better deal later on another site') and others they don't have a lot of control over like publishers putting updates or DLC on gog quickly or at all. They're still a good site offering DRM-free versions that are mostly fine often with extras.

Oh for sure i get that kind of stuff, thats not a biggie, stuff like this on the other hand:

"The gog version is missing the level editor, replays, leaderboards, and the ability to play custom maps. Both the editor and replays were initially advertised on the game's store page, but have been quietly redacted."

"Multiplayer/Coop is missing from the GOG version despite it being advertised during the pre-order campaign. Harebrained Schemes promised to add these features at a later point, but instead decided to drop further development of this game altogether."

Pure bait and switch, fraud, whatever you want to call it.

I doubt those are case of bait and switch or fraud by GOG. More like GOG got screwed by the developer. I bet GOG would provide a refund.

GOG gave me a refund when I told them I bought a game after forgetting I had already purchased it on Steam, so I'm sure they would give one where the product delivered was different than advertised.

Ya, I had the same thing where they refunded for that reason.

No way Steam would do the same outside of their 2 hour/2 week window.

You're throwing the blame on the people who are getting shafted. GoG's people aren't sitting in a dark room rubbing their hands together while they laugh menacingly about how they are falsely advertising products. They are told by developers what they are able to sell on their site BY the developers and if the developers decide to not give them access to a level editor or refuse to give them DLC to release even after they've advertised it, it's not entirely GoG's fault. They may have jumped the gun with advertising products they didn't have at the moment, but then again, how do you sell a pre-order if you don't advertise what you'll get with the pre-order?

GoG has some pretty good customer service and just the fact they are releasing a list of all the games that didn't deliver on the promised content says a lot. As Cozarkian said, GoG would most likely give a full refund if you bought a game for co-op/multiplayer/level editors/DLC/etc. and the product they purchased didn't come with the feature they wanted.

Yeah, pretty much this.

It is the publishers that give GOG users the shaft.
That is a pretty shameful list that was posted by dud.
Anyone buying from GoG may want to visit this link titled "Games that treat GOG customers as second class citizens" before they do so:

Some of these titles are because of Steam restrictions. They don't want GOG users to use Steam's services for the MP stuff, that is why most of those titles, you can't play with Steam people. Blame Valve for not being open.

For the other titles that aren't MP related, that is doubly shameful. I am not sure why GOG keeps selling these games, IMO, they should just them to go pound sand.

I am not even sure why Vavle does these "sales", the ones I have been eyeing have either been the same price, or it is flat out lies when they take the percent off the MSRP, instead of the normal selling price.

So far, Fanatical has been having much better deals than what Steam has.
They (Valve) just don't care anymore, with the rules change for the refunds/returns, things have just gone downhill, they hardly try, and they know they can get away with it, since they are so big now. Yeah, every once in a while they throw a bone, but that isn't as often as it should be.

Luckily most of those games are not very interesting. However it is missing a lot of titles such as aow-3 has linux on steam but not gog - but again this is not gog fault - the developer refuse to release the linux version under a false claim of using steam code (the library they use will work fine without steam and has a gpl licence not a valve license).

What are some god's eye view building or strategy games that might be good? Thus far, the games of that nature I've played are kind of limited to Rome Total War and some of the sequels, Starcraft 2, Civ 4 and 5, Star Wars Empire at War, Defense Grid, and that's all I can think of at the moment. I worded it this way because I'm looking at anything from combatless building games to RTS.

Civ has a certain appeal but if Civ 6 is the exact same formula with just minor differences I'd rather find something else. Any ideas? Banished? Anno series? Those are among a few games of this type I've got on my steam wish list but haven't bought. As far as Anno, I have both Anno 2205 and Anno 2070 on my list, is there any reason not to just drop Anno 2070 and start with 2205?

Steam also has Cities Skylines on sale for $10. I would not recommend it, though. It is basically Simcity (the new one, not the older better ones), with Twitter notifications and dead bodies that you need to burn or bury. Yeah... it’s about as fun as it sounds.

I did not post that link to denigrate GoG. I think that they are great. I posted it to warn others to allow them to check if ANY game they are considering is on that list of "crippled" games. A lot of time, energy and passion went into compiling that list ...

I've currently got 20+ games on my Steam wishlist. Games that I may never play ... but nice games nonetheless. Let's see ...

I didn't take it that way, I also like what GOG is doing.

I just meant that the publishers should be ashamed, not GOG.
