move to Somolia, you'll be a stud

don't do your abs more than once in a 48 hour period, also target your upper, lower, and obliques. doing your abs 2 times a week is enough to get a six pack.

Hit your abs with weight, and then you'll realize that people who say you can train abs every day are full of sh1t. :D I find that doing decline sit-ups with a barebell or dumbell works best. You can try holding plates but they have a tendancy to limit your range of motion (especially if you're a shorty like me :D)

Build some muscle and your weight will even out normally.

This is bad advice. You should work your abs every day, the goal with your abs is to get cut, not to build extra muscle. You can only get cut by burning calories in that region, and the best way to do that is to do crunches.

Um, WRONG. Fat loss cannot be targeted. You cannot spot reduce... unless you do so surgically.

I tell you what, when you get a 6 pack come back and talk to me. I'm sick of people giving hypothetical advice. I do what works, I have great abs and I got them by eating right, and exercising. If you do not have a 6 pack, do not give advice on how to get one.

dude declines with a dumbell behind your head is where its at. do that instead of putting the plate/db on your chest. it is MUCH more effective. i typically do 2 sets of crunches w/out weight, very concentrated, then 2 sets of crunches where there is no back thing, and have a DB behind my head.

i do have a 6 pack. actually its closer to an 8 pack. and i can guarantee you that your "advice" is horribly wrong. you are WWAAYY over training your abs and limiting the muscle growth.

Ya, due to leverage you're gonna feel like you're lifting a lot more weight if you hold it behind your head. Plus, as you come up, it won't get easier due to the weight being out in front of you. The problem with this is, beginner lifters might end up messing up their rotator cuff or neck if they use too much weight. Still, for intermediate/advanced lifters, I totally agree.

dude you know absolutely NOTHING about working out your abs if you believe doing 1000 crunches a day is good for your abs. if you are doing crunches correctly, doing 3 sets of 15 is enough, because by the time you do 16 you will be burning like a mofo. again, thats IF you are working your abs correctly.

people are so ignorant and think working out your abs every day is the correct way. its not, at all. your abs are just like any other muscle in your body, and you should not workout a muscle more than once in a 48 hour period becausee it takes 48 hours to fully heal your torn muscles.

if you think otherwise you are just ignorant.

EDIT:

i re-read your post above, and now yes, i know you know nothing about working your abs out. in your plan, you do not even do your lower abs or your obliques, you soley do 1000 crunches which are for your upper abs.

3 sets of 15?!?! are you joking?? Seriously, do not give ab advice unless you have a 6 pack, there are different motions that you should acheive as well, leg lifts generally are not a great way to work your lower abs as they tend to work your hip reflexers. What I do instead is modified leg lifts. Cruch so your shoulder blades are off the ground and lift your legs about 6 inches off the ground. Then contract your abs so that your legs vascilate between 6 and 18 inches off of the ground, this is an excellent way to work your lower and upper abs. Obliques are hard to work, generally I do about 200 of my cruches on my side, meaning I lay my legs to one side and do crunches, making sure that I'm not simply going through the motions and that each cruch I feel in my obliques. Although to be honest, my obliques can use more work as I have more definition in my central area than I do on the sides.

Dude, I'm a freakin' body builder. I see my abs every time I cut. And I lose them every time I bulk.

Know what changes between those cycles? DIET AND CARDIO. Nothing else. Building ab muscles is POINTLESS if you do not burn the fat that covers them. Fat CANNOT be spot reduced. Only general exercise will burn fat and where your fat is burned is determined by genetics, NOT which muscle group you exercise.

From one of the most reputable exercise sites on the web:

http://www.exrx.net/WeightTraining/Myths.html

Spot Reduction Myth
Contrary to what the info commercials suggest, there is no such thing as spot reduction. Fat is lost throughout the body in a pattern dependent upon genetics, sex (hormones), and age. Overall body fat must be reduced to lose fat in any particular area. Although fat is lost or gained throughout the body, it seems the last area to become lean or the first area to get fat is the midsection (in men and some women) and hips and thighs (in women and few men). Sit-ups, crunches, leg-hip raises, leg raises, hip adduction, hip abduction, etc. will only exercise the muscles under the fat.

Dude I hate to break it to you, but I do have a six pack. Well its between a 6 pack and an 8 pack.

Why won't you just accept you are wrong? It seems that everyone on here who knows something about lifting is disagreeing with you. Doing 3 sets of 15, concentrated crunches, is a GREAT start for a beginner to do, as long as he's doing them properly.

People like yourself think that the more is better. I'm sure you are the guy in the gym who puts 325 on the benchpress and comes like 3 inches from their chest before they push it back up aren't you.

You know what I do for abs?

Deadlifts and Squats.

When I used to work out (can't do it know due to a quad and shoulder injury...will be getting back into it soon...heck...maybe start this weekend)...I never, ever, did a single crunch, oblique exercise, bicycle, or anything else that directly targeted the abs. Why? There's no need.

Your abdominals and obliques are used in just about every exercise imaginable...as stabilizers. You know those guys who deadlift and squat HEAVY (talking 315+, depending on body size, type, etc.) weights (me being one of them, well...used to be one of them) without a belt and you think to yourself, "man, how can he do that?" Well, he can do that because he (or she) has a strong torso. You have to keep your abs and obliques taught while doing both exercises...thus working them out...

Now I'm a flabby POS...but my six-pack was a thing of beauty...

Proper Diet and a low bodyfat % = Key to a sixer

i deadlifted 5x5 of 375lbs the day I broke my ankle, about 3 hours before I broke it playing basketball.

and yes, doing deadlifts will DEFINITELY leave you with sore abs the next day.

You won't get a six pack just by doing abs, you gotta work out all the other parts of your body too.

1. Workout (including abs)
2. Nice cardio
3. Clean food, if you want to be ripped, go on special toning diet eating mad proteins and very little salt so your body does not retain water.

So you're saying you broke your ankle AFTER deadlifting righ? You weren't deadlifting with a broken ankle...right?

That's impressive man...I remember the first day I did 405...it was only once...but this was in the middle of a cutting cycle where, theoretically, I should have been getting weaker, not stronger. I was proud of myself; I weighed 165 at the time...and got down to 162 before I had enough and started bulking up again. It was fun though...I never knew I had so many veins...haha....sorry...reminising (sp?) of fond memories.

wow, the clash of information from different ppl... heh. I'm w/ the concentrated abs. it feels like i've done a whole lot after 3 sets for 10-15. however, i have not been consistant and need ot do much much more cardio.. ha.
