Good Work Boots?

I seem to go through shoes like crazy... The ones I currently am wearing are splitting on the bottom where the foot bends the shoe when stepping. That seems to happen to my shoes a lot.

I work at a construction firm so i need something that is pretty durable and feels good. I really don't want steel-toe boots, but regular boots might be fine as long as they aren't to heavy.

Update: Got some nice Red Wings... really comfortable for the first day. The guy sold me some leather oil too so I can keep them looking good. 🙂 Thanks everyone.

I haven't had a pair of Wolverines since I worked in the field, but IIRC they were bought out and aren't supposed to be as good as they once were. The last pair I had were awesome though...

Timberlands? I like them alot, I feel really comfortable wearing them...and they seem to be really durable.

redwing.. .. or new balance has a line of steel toe work shoe has a different "brand" name like landam or something i forget what they are.Anway just go to the new balance website and it'll take you there.. .. ..

My roomate got a pair sorta look like casual shoes but have a steel toe and he loves them wears them 10hrs a day 5 days a week with no complaints so far and had them like 7 months I think. pretty cheap too i think but worth a look at least.

I wear whatever the heck my work buys me 😀

But I have some Dr. Martins that I love to wear off work. Most comfortable footware I've ever owned.

I'd go with Red Wings, but they're not cheap. $150 for my last pair. We've got a couple of retail stores in our area. (N. Va.) BTW the Red Wing employees seem to be a surley bunch. But, maybe that's just the Al Bundy syndrome.

Work buys us new boots every 6 months due to the chemicals I work around eating the bottoms off them. Most people like the Redwings but they are big $$. I got some Iron age branded ones I liked alot last time.

magnum lo-tech boots, hands down the most durable and comfortable i've ever had. You can get them for about $100.

If you're paying,, the Sears $29 boots really aren't bad. However I doubt the "steel toe" will protect me if my foot gets run over by a forklift or a pallet falls on it at work.

I'm required to wear steel-toe boots for work and have a pair of wolverines, took me a while to get used to wearing steel toe boots but they are pretty comfortable. I think these cost around $120-130, they had redwings too but as mentioned they are pretty spendy, the cheapest they had was $150ish.

I've been working in a machine shop for close to 30 years, and have tried all kinds, and brands of shoes. For the last 20 years I've been buying Sears "Diehard" oxfords, similar to these. Those aren't the right model number, though. The correct shoe lists at about $79.00 and is available several times per year at close to $40.00. They have a crepe sole, with a layer of neoprene on the bottom which NEVER wears out, and is slip resistant. Knapp calls it a "Two-Shot" sole. I can get a pair to last a couple years. The sides near my toes wear a hole before the sole gives up. Stitching never comes loose. Its a very good idea to buy a couple pairs and alternate daily. That gives the shoes a chance to dry out completely, and is much healthier for your feet.
