good wireless router

my apartment complex has free wifi but wants to make it so a small html based page comes up to advertise first before they can connect...anything?

you aren't looking for a wireless router (you will probably need multiple AP's depending on the size) what you are looking for is a captive portal.

Umm... only thing that came to my mind was make them connect to/through a proxy you have set up which does that...

Jack, I think they just want an advert page. A simple proxy setup using m0n0wall or chillspot should do the trick. Just don't activate any sort of authentication besides the initial redirection. Also setup forced session lengths, and session expirations as well so people can't get around it. Don't be mean and make them for at least a few hours.

Then you can host the page on that device itself (depending on your software.


I made one back in the day ( http://m0n0.myhsr.com ) using m0n0wall, and these days it's much much easier.


Here's what the page I setup used link , which has an AUP (acceptable use policy) and some words on there. All the downloads are available for download on that site and use the most basic session-initiation (they click on a button)...very easy to modify:)

thanks guys, it looks like dd-wrt can do it also with nocat
so i might go that route, seeing as its the cheapest
