Good Wii games for mom?

I finally decided I am going to get her a Nintendo Wii. I've been an PC gamer exclusively since I got rid of my SNES back in 1996. Havent been keeping up with consoles lately.
She's bored and sick of reading books, especially since she needs glasses now. Want to get her something simple and fun, naturally the Wii came to mind.

What kind of games are likely to be enjoyed by a 58-year-old woman who never did more than solitare on her Blackberry?
I was thinking of the Wii Fit but the general consensus seems to be its an overpriced gadget that will collect dust after the first week.
Was also considering the bowling and tennis games, possibly Mario Kart and some other fun classics. What about that 47 dollar game which comes with another controller?

Need help from those who've given one to their moms or at least let her play on their system.

My wife's mom loves Wii Sports. She's also into the various puzzle type games (Boom Blox, Dr. Mario, MaBoShi's Arcade).

I wouldn't bother with any of the standalone bowling or tennis games; so far none are really any better than Wii Sports that I've seen.

YMMV on Wii Fit. Some love it, some give up after a week or so like you said. Hard to say without knowing your mom.

Wii Play, the one that comes with the extra controller, is supposedly pretty fun for casual games, plus it's not much more expensive than a second controller anyway (used to be about $10 more; haven't checked prices recently). I haven't tried it though.

I second the puzzle games, Dr. Mario etc. My mom always loved Tetris and Dr. Mario on the Gameboy.
