anyone know any good webhosting services? not cheap free ones, but with domain hosting ones, maybe $15-$30/mo. i heard simplenet and tierranet used to be really good ones, and offered unlimited space, but now both are in the 50mb-250mb range. i don't plan on hosting a whole lot, but i'd like the option if i'm going to be paying for it, of hosting files, vid clips, etc (no not porn or '//@®3z, or any copyrighted material). possible startup company dealie, professional use.

WordSmith2000- i did happen to use the search function actually. but if you happen to find a thread regarding good webhosting sites and the opinions of this forum regarding them, maybe you should post that. i haven't been around as long as you though so i guess i'm new to these forums, thanks.

JesusCow- that was considerably more helpful, thank you. i've heard good things about prohosting, have you had any negative experiences with them? they seem to offer considerably more space, not quite unlimited but i guess i shouldn't be expecting that. and they allow CGI scripting as well, a _huge_ plus. i think i'm definitely going with them.

vinnyracer, no, CNET only lists the top webhosting companies that have the money to pay them.

I have had an account before with DIDS.com, and they were decent.
Try doing a search at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/, there is tons more information there.

vinnyracer, I don't think you understood my statement, it was pretty unclear I guess. From what I have seen (both web/print) C|NET only lists the large hosting companies that have a lot of money to spent on advertising (..on C|NET). Seldom do they even take a look at the 'little guys'. From my experience, the 'little guys' handle support much better, and take the time to get to know you.

Great timing, I was just about to post a similar thread.

My question is, using one host and account, can I have multiple websites run off it? Sort of like a couple of folders within that one account, and a different URL address pointing to each different folder/website? My friend told me that was possible, but what's the correct tech lingo for that feature/service/ability?

In addition, I hear most of them support PHP since it's been around for a while and it's free/opensource? I'm looking to setup a forum (php based) under each of those separate folders/websites. I'm new to this aspect of web design, so correct me if I have made any ignorant remarks. But I think my friend is looking for a host that supports Cold Fusion.

Anyone have any leads on a good cheap host with the above features? I'm looking through the mentioned links right now.

A good place to ask this question (or just browse through old replies) is in the Web Hosting Forum of Site Point Forums. There's lots of people with experience in this field.

Yeah Paulson, I happened to check out your other thread about your site right before I posted this, but saw that the sites hosted on your server were http://www.paulsonator.com/otherpersonsname/

I would be ok with that, but the organizations I'm setting up the sites for wouldn't get it. =D

Perhaps I can use your host for my personal site, heck I don't care what the URL shows up as. When do you plan on getting PHP ready? I have to figure out how to set up those forums. Never tried before.

HOLY COW!!! :D

I'd be stupid not to take you up on this great offer.
How much space, data transfer allowed? Database software used?

Anybody use Pair Networks? June specials include 24% off if you prepay a year (other options available too). Packages are from $5.95/mo to $129.95/mo for shared hosting. $1/mo (each) to host additional domains.

Pair is great (I have four accts with them), and so is Live Technologies. I'm using Live Technologies for another acct because they support NT while Pair is Unix-only. The tech guys there are real friendly and helpful. One company I can tell you NOT to sign up with is Interland. They advertise everywhere and are ranked pretty highly over at CNET, but they SUCK! Check out WebHostingTalk for more info and actual user recommendations/experiences.
