Insipired by that thread about not being able to get to your email...
what would the best remote desktop program be that would host a web VNC server that I can access thru a normal IE window from school or work? Is it free and is the connection good?
I use TightVNC - it has a default web interface using Java and ports 5800 and 5801 (by default) IIRC. In other words, I go to http://My.Ip.Address:5800 and can access my home PC. Your firewall will have to open those two ports for it to work. The connection is pretty good; a step below MS Remote Desktop, but not bad for free. The TightVNC standalone client has a file transfer feature as well, but I only use the web interface which seems to lack that feature. Not a big deal for me though.
Uh... the default install of RealVNC DOES use a web interface. It's either on port 5700 or 5800, but it's there and it's active if VNCServer is running.
