Good Virtual Machine Software for Linux?

By "virtual machine" I mean a software program that will actually simulate a second computer inside the first. In my case, this would be for running Windows inside Linux for certain games without having to dual-boot, since I wouldn't want to shut down my linux server programs, etc. What software is good for this? BTW, yes, I know this will be much slower than a dual-boot, but unless it's about 10x slower there's no problem. Thanks:).

This isn't what you asked for, but winex and codeweavers wine make an excellent combo for using windows apps under linux :)

it's basically a whole new OS inside of your current one. depending on your video card and monitor, it should run them ok. I have used vmware for windows with linux as the vm. the video was crappy, but I have a crappy video card.

Yep, VMWare workstation should do it.

How does vmware work with 3d games and things like that?

Like sh1t I would imagine. Never been brave enough to try. I assume you mean a 3d app running on one of the virtual boxes, not the host.

VMWare is not good for gaming. I don't think it supports 3D. The video driver used is VMWare SVGA. It's great for office-like application and cross-platform programming but nothing too intense.

For gaming, winex is the best bet, but its far from perfect.

VMWare isnt for gaming. The vmware video driver that you have to install doesnt even support 3d AFAIK.
