Good vacation spots near the greater chicagoland area?

me and my girlfriend are trying to think of a place to visit for about 4-5 days this summer. we live about an hour west of chicago. are there any places that are not incredibly far away (a solid days drive is fine) and wont break my bank account? all i can think of is the wisonsin dells, but we have both been there.

Southwest MI. Look around the St Joe- New Buffalo area. Right now it is huge with Chicago-area people. You could go winery tours, nice beaches, etc. If you want more info, PM me and i'll see how you I can help (I've been going up there since i was born for the summers)

yeah, my grandparents have a vacation home there on lake kangaroo. we go every summer, its kind of getting boring there. 😱

 

Try Michigan City IN, the dunes in SW MI, St Joe, but if i were you, id make the trek to grand haven MI. One of my most fav places on earth, especially when there are good waves.
