amd 24.86 market cap 9.133 bil
intc 24.12 market cap 152.5 bil

eventhough AMD price is higher, they still have no market cap compare to intc.

All these years of holding amd stocks, finally getting a little bit back. still loosing big with CIEN though

Given the choice, I would buy intc in a heartbeat ... too lazy to check, but I'm sure intc has a lower p/e ratio than amd. I'm sure they're scrambling to throw their weight around to regain some of the market share.

I think the OPs logic is they have more room to grow. Not the best logic IMHO.

Intel is looking more attractive, but I wouldn't buy either of them. I like value and growth prospects in my stocks. AMD has growth, but not value, since the growth is already priced in. Intel has reasonable value, but not much growth, since it's already dominant in the market.
If it was me, I would buy a Canadian index with high exposure to oil and natural resources to protect against the falling dollar.

I really would not use a stocks current price relative to another stock's current price to determine its worth to buy.

Did this too (sold at $22) sold to early. Plan to re-buy after new year. AMD stocks go up at the end of the year (more related to flash memory I think). But they usually go down after new year. I just hope I can rebuy it at $17.

I invested $200, current Sharebuilder value is $286. Should I sell? $16 to sell with Sharebuilder:(

Did you time it right?

I admit publically that I didn't see the sharp rise to almost 25 coming. I said buy when it was at its minimum ~10 (correctly identified publically here in another thread). But I said sell it above 18 (I'll take a public flogging for that). I certainly missed the peak. But I also missed this plunge. At 15.5 and dropping, it is time to think about buying again.

AMD previously said processor sales were good and flash memory sales were flat or slightly up - so profits should be decent. Today they announced flash sales were down and there would be a significant drop in profits (probably a significant loss). They will announce the real results in a few days I think. It was just a warning released today.

Here you go - flash down, and market share may also have also decreased a bit.

At least this is a legitimate reason for a drop... unlike stocks like SIRI and HDTV, when analysts just come out and say "Yeah, we think it's overpriced." and they fall like rocks.

The market is in a slide so far in 2005. It's probably going to dip for a little bit then rebound soon. The economy still has not fully recovered yet. I don't think this is a very good time to sell anything except stocks that have done exceptionally exceptionally well and are now overpriced.

It's a decent time to buy, in my opinion. You may lose a bit in the short, but by year end it should turn around.

Its the beginning of a new year, people are looking for reasons to sell off their gains so they dont have to pay taxes till 2005 tax time. Even with good news, stocks are dropping. What can ya do? Just sit back and hope for the best.

i've looked at AMD stocks for a while and i think they are right around their high so i wouldn't even bother to buy any now. In 2001 around the time of the crash, the price was less than $10 a share.
