Hey,

firstly my rig;

Asus 277 Sabertooth
16gb DDR3 1600
(hdd's wont matter)
1000w psu
I5 3570k
...

okay currently im running my I5 @4.7Ghz 1.32 V

the temp idle is 25-27C

under blend test in prime 95 im running at 60c stable for 6 hours

Im wondering is this a good temp ? since i've moved from AMD to Intel, i cant find a temp guide anywhere

Kind Regards

Jelliston :)

Which version of Prime95 are you using? Older versions don't use AVX FFTs and won't heat up your CPU as much.
To absolutely wreck your system, use Intel Burn Test. You'll find instabilities in minutes that would take Prime95 much longer to find.

Your Prime95 temps are better than my LinX temps and I am using an H100. Never used Prime95, so not sure the stress load difference between the two. What cooler are you using?

okay, so i've currently decided to push my CPU even further....

Now im running at 5.2gHz and 1.37v

Idle temp 30c

Load temp using IBT and Prime 95 is around 75-80c

Does this sound decent guys ?

Older Prime95 versions (w/o AVX FFTs) result in far lower load temps than LinX / IBT. The newer version(s) (w/AVX FFTs) gets up to about the same temps as LinX / IBT (~2-3C lower).
However, IBT seems to be more picky when it comes to stability. eg. I cannot pass 500 std iterations of IBT, but can Prime95-AVX all day till the cows come home.

@jelliston : DAFUQ?! I wish I had your CPU :( - ended up pussying out and settling for 4.2GHz @ 1.13V (drooped under IBT load), load temps 71C (in case, Hyper 212+ w/IC Diamond TIM).

im running the H100 and Storm Stryker Case.

Might of just got a Gold ticket cpu :)

and im just using the stock paste that came on the H100

Edit.. ill leave a IBT test over night (8 hours) and see what happens

ill post the results in the morning

I wouldn't run at 80C potential daily. That 60C overclocked looked like the one you should keep for 24/7 use. Nice chip though, great oc's.

Ah, you're under water, should've seen that. How are you running IBT - standard, max?

These chips can handle it (TJmax 105C). Moreover, you'll hardly ever approach 80C under most daily use scenarios.

I realistically only use it for about 8 hours per day, and thats for Running games on Eyefinity.. whilst gaming it only reaches 52C but i think i might take your advice :)

I'm usually a little conservative with my OCs. This is because I'd rather be rock solid than "on the edge" when it comes to productivity or even gaming. It sucks for a game to crash out or hard lock after 2-3 hours of playing. A happy medium for your chip seems to be 4.7-4.8Ghz. That extra 400mhz doesn't seem worth the extra heat to me for daily use. Its pretty nice for some benches though :)

if im honest, I just wanted to see what i could get max and stable.. ill probly take it down to 4.8 when im finished, or even 5 if the heat isnt bad :)

next ive just gotta OC my ram :L

Hardly ever and never are two different things. The potential to hit ~80% TJmax (throttle down/shut down temperature) on a daily rig is not something I would not be comfortable with. This is only for me, which I am conservative with my builds and overclocks as I've stated. I only recommend what I am comfortable with and what has worked well for me to others (I've never lost a chip to OC and I never get crashes related to OC.)

As for the original question 5.2Ghz at 80C may be "safe" but I know 4.8Ghz at 60C is "safer", while downclocking to 3.0Ghz is "safest." Its all about what the OP feels most comfortable with. I think his choice of 4.8Ghz is a happy medium.

Enjoy the chip!

Fair enough. I'd just be happy to get jelliston's temps on my 3570K at 4.5GHz - was pushing 88C with the Vcore required to get it IBT stable.

More for scientific curiosity than anything, since I wanted to see what IVB could do. Personally, I'm more comfortable with an upper limit of 75C, which is why I went down to 4.2GHz. 4.4/4.5 requires too large of a Vcore jump to be worth it (extra ~0.15V).

In my experience, cinebench 11 finds overclock errors faster than any stress tester. Even when there's no indication of a fault like a BSOD or lockup, there might still be WHEA errors being collected in the event log. If they show up, the overclock is not fully stable.

Also, those temps are fine considering you aren't F@H or otherwise subjecting the cpu to those temps/volts for hours on end on a daily basis. 75c is such an arbitrary number to aim for. Why not 70 or 65? :) I would gladly run that overclock 24/7. I also require 1.37 volts for stability, but that's at 4.5 ghz unfortunately. Looks like you indeed have a golden chip. But again, I'd like to see a few WHEA error-free cinebench runs. :)

It's not a hard and fast limit for me - just like to be in the mid-to-low 70s is all.
What makes me do "dafuq?" is that my i7 920 @ 4GHz actually runs at a lower temp than this 3570K (and the HSF isn't _that_ much better - Xigmatek Dark Knight).

You are overclocked 0.5GHz more than me, yet you have lower temps by 10 degrees on idle and 15 on load. Then again, I am using stock cooler for now. So I would say your temps are good.

At 4.2ghz mine almost hits 80c. At 4.4ghz I get up to 92c.

Same here. Just finished my 3570k build for a family member. Using a CM 212+, I hit high 70s at 4.2ghz. That's on default voltage...If I push to 4.4, I start getting in the 90s. I backed-down to 4.2 because it will be used for gaming mostly, and when I stressed both the CPU and GPU together it hit in low 80s even at 4.2. I would rather it be rock-solid and reliable in the worst situation and not be right on the edge. These chips are hot...

Ambient? Fanspeed? Can you do 5 runs Linx 0.6.4 AVX enabled and check GFlops too?

So far seems like a very good chip to me, actually first time I saw 3570K pass 5Ghz I think. Mine hit 98c at 4.6 GHz 1.3V using HR-02 with TY-140 1300rpm fan at 20c ambient.

Anyway, for stresstesting anything under 105c is fine I guess.

Edit: noticed you got 16GB ram. I used 6144MB for Linx testing.
