Good temps for a 52W Peltier w/ an Alpha PEP66

I have a FC-PGA P3-600E overclocked to 840. It is now being cooled by an Alpha PEP66 w/ a 52W Peltier. My temp seems to be about 19-20 degrees C. Is this good?

Are those temps under full cpu load?

if they are, they're pretty good for a 52watt peltier on a Coppermine.

No, I wish. These temps are when the machine just sits there for a while. Here is some more info. I have a ASUS P3V4X Mobo w/ the CPU voltage set at 1.7V, the room temp is about 78 degrees F.

When I actually do stuff w/ the PC like play a game for example, the temp almost doubles to about 32-36 degrees C. Then I'll exit the application and it quickly goes back down to about 19-21 degrees C.

I can't really complain, the rig is working great. I just wanted a reality check.

With an Alpha HS (original design w/o copper) and a 55W peltier on a Celeron/400->570 @ 2.05v, I get about 24C at idle and 34C max load.

Hmm... just for comparison, what temp does your CPU run under load with the heatsink and no peltier?

That sounds pretty good for an air cooled 52w pelt. Not too high above ambient under full load sounds about right.

Over the last day or so, my CPU has taken a turn for the worse. It has decided to be a lightbulb more than a CPU and it's temps now hover around 45 Degrees C. I checked the peltier setup and it all looks ok. I once heard that something happens to the substrate and makes the CPU temps go ballistic, this may be happening to me now.

I just put the pelt on! When I ran the the pelt setup unmounted the cold plate seemed cold. What should I be looking for?

Huh, that's not too great temp with a 52w peltier...

Part of the problem is teh P3v4x's temp readings... waht slotket do you have?

hmm... it is possible(i've had this happen to me before) that the thermal grease could have hardened(the grease between the cold plate and peltier that is) and that is preventing good cold transfer to the cpu. OTher than that, i have no idea why your temps have gone up.

Your slotket is among the several that don't really conflict with the p3v4x.

I just installed a Leufken's 52W peltier today also. Running RC5 right now at 40C. Case temp is 30C. When I'm not doing anything the temps are around 15C. Also on an Asus P3V4X with an MSI Master slocket. Should I be worried about condensation with the idle temps around 15C? The instructions say that the peltier is designed to keep the CPU at 75F-78F and I'm way below that at idle...

I'm surprised they are running that hot idly...

If you're afraid of condesnation at 15C, i would just run rc5 or seti command line all the time to keep the temp up.

Yes, always worry about condensation. Make sure you do not get close to the point of condensation when you are at idle. Insulating against condensation will often give you lower temps to boot..

Well I pulled the peltier off and sure enough it looks like it was not working as well as it should. I only had the Peltier working maybe 4 days...

My temps with just the Alpha are around 38-42 degrees C.

I haven't made up my mind if I should try a peltier again.
