Good songs (repeat GOOD) that aren't too hard to play on guitar

I can play basic chords and can swing a barre chord if i have lots of time to prepare for it. I'm not a guitar hero, ninja or pirate. Ok, I might be a guitar pirate if I can figure out how to download a Les Paul... and some talent. (Hook me up, Neo.)

Point is, I'm looking for some good songs to play so I'm not stuck playing wonderwall until my fingers decide to revolt by beating me in the head with the guitar.

Me think good:
REM
Decemberists
Blitzen Trapper
Smashing Pumpkins
Postal Service
Beatles
Johnny Cash
The 90s (yes, the decade... specifically the early 90s, AKA the REAL 90s.)
And stuff like that. (Rock, especially.)

At this point you think "ah bump you, ya little asshat, go look stuff up yourself." Then you point me to "let me google that for you" and return to doing the macarena.

But wait!

Don't do that. It's almost Christmas after all. Think of it as a gift. Of course I'm Jewish, but it is the 4th night of Hanukkah (so think of it as a pair of socks, or a dreidel or some crap like that).

TIA!

Let it Be by the Beatles!

I'm trying to learn to play it by ear atm. Very simple but good.

Just keep practising your chords man. Once you get the bar chords down pat, and all the majors and minors then you can play most songs out there.

I don't know if you'll like them or not, but a couple songs that I found really easy and enjoyably when I just started playing were:

You and Me -- Lifehouse
Wonderwall -- Oasis

Both are really easy to play and most people recognize the tunes so its easy to get others to sing along.

Oh and Save Tonight -- Eagle Eye Cherry, thats a good one too. I think it was from the 90's. Actually, I think that song is A minor, F, C, G throughout.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys and gals, keep em coming! I just checked out Let It Be - definitely awesome. easy to pick up too

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama

R.E.M. - Everybody Hurts, Driver 8, The One I Love
Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm, Pennies
Oasis - Supersonic
Beatles - Blackbird (sounds harder than it is), In My Life

One of my favorites was learning Weezer's blue album in high school.

Fail.

hahahahaha

🙂

Also, if anyone wants to come dig through all my crap and find my capo, that'd be fantastic.

"Good" is all relative, but a lot of people think Nirvana was good, and with a week of practice you can play each and every one of their songs 0.o

So true. Every guitar player should know Smells Like Teen Spirit and Come As You Are.

House of the Rising Sun - The Animals
another vote for Hurt - Johnny Cash
Nothing Else Matters/Unforgiven - Metallica
Karma Police - Radio Head
Everlong - Foo Fighters (or any Foo Fighters song, really)

Oh shit, I totally forgot about House of the Rising Sun. Great song and easy to play.

There is a start to a Metallica song. I remember it was on the black album. I think it was enter sandman? No, couldn't be that. It is very simple to learn. Someone has to know what song it is, I'm drawing a blank. The song starts with nothing but guitar for like 20+ seconds.
