Good Socket370 Heatsinks?

I recently broke the fan on my golden orb and I've been meaning to pick up a new S370 CPU anyway but most of the sites I go to are pretty much concentrating on SocketA heatsinks. I have a spare FOP38 lying around here but when I attempt to put it on an FCPGA chip, it feels like I'm applying way too much pressure. I really can't afford to crack the core and don't mind waiting. Can anyone recommend a decent S370 heatsink that costs under $30 and is least likely to chip my core? I'd like it to be able to cool up to 1ghz. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

hmm. Gorb, is OK, but doesnt work very well, 54c on load for my proc. Alpha PEP66 is good. most people recommend taht or the thermoengine! =p.

I compared the Golden Orb, Chrome Orb and Alpha FCPGA-35t on a P3-700 overclocked to 980 MHz @ 140 FSB at 1.80 volts vcore. The limit of my CPU is 1.0 GHz @ 143 FSB at 1.9 volts vcore. The Coppermine is such an efficient design, all of them provide sufficient cooling with a large margin to the Intel ultimate spec. Using the Alpha FCPGA-35t and ArticSilver, the CPU never went more than 10C (18F) above case/MB temperature running Prime95 loop. All HSF are completely stable running Prime95 loop.

The Alpha cools 10F better than the Golden Orb at full load, and 3F better at idle. The Golden Orb is good enough for the overclocked P3-980 with absolutely no stability problem. Mechanically speaking, it is the more stable of the two.

For the same price, the Thermaltake Chrome Orb has a faster fan, but a conventional spring clip latch. It will cool a little better than the Golden Orb, but it is too big (interfer with the capacitors) to mount in some motherboards, such as Asus CUSL2.

The Socket-A HSFs will work on FC-PGA CPUs. I have a FOP-32(same heatsink as FOP-38) on a FC-PGA. You might want to try pre-bending the clip , then try to install and see if that helps , good luck.
