good site to search junk yards?

im looking for a replacement tail light, are there any good online sites for finding the best deal or am i better off just calling around?
 
never used car-part, but if its one of the ones where you put in the part and junkyards will email you if they have it, those searches are pretty cool.

downside is that they know you probably need the part badly and might rape you on the price. as far as price, pull-a-part > all.

Car-part is basically a listing of parts in junkyards across the country. You put in what you want, and the system searches for parts that match and provides a list (no emails).

The last time I used it, I needed a tail light for my BMW 840. Due to the rarity of the car (and my location) pick-a-part yards were out. So, I tried the part inquiry where you get emails with prices, car-part.com, and Ebay.

All of the emails I got (a number of them) were from sellers who were all too happy to sell me a used taillight for $250. Car-part had the light priced from (IIRC) $150 - 250. I ended up getting a used part off Ebay for $75 shipped.
 
I've gotten parts 25-50% off by using car-part.com to figure out which junkyard has it, then just call them and don't act like you know they have it listed.

Pull-a-part type yards are awesome if your car is 10+years old, though I've found one that specializes exclusivey in late-model imports.
