Good singleplayer game to workout my new rig?

I havent played a FPS in two years besides SS3 but I like them but really only for single player. I was thinking maybe BF3 or Skyrim even though they're very different games.

Is there anything else I should try besides these two that hopefully have a demo? I played through SR3 and Just Cause 2 recently but thats about it.

Arkham City? Alice?

I'd prefer a good story because I get bored fast at repetitive games.

You'll be extremely disappointed if the drop the coin for BF3 expecting a good SP campaign.....it's pathetic. Crysis 2 has been on sale lately for dirt cheap and it has a far more engaging SP campaign than BF3.

I just built a rig similar to yours, and the game I've been enjoying the most on it is Skyrim with a bunch of high-res texture mods. Something about the art direction in that game, coupled with high-res textures (which is where vanilla Skyrim's visuals fall apart) is absolutely stunning (a truncated list of the major mods I use can be found here). Crysis and Crysis: Warhead also look really good, but the story is nothing to write home about. Still, a rig like that should crush all the best looking games on the market right now, so load all those, The Witcher 2, Battlefield 3 and Bad Company 2, Crysis 2, Metro 2033, Batman: Arkham City, et al, and let fly. You won't be let down by any of them (graphically, anyway).

These are all on the list! I only install and play one at a time so I make sure play it all the way through.

I picked up COD MW3 and its a blast. It seems to have a bunch to do as far as SP goes.

Now I just need to get my reflexes back.

Hard Reset is a good single player game that hearkens back to the old days of PC gaming.

there are no games currently atm that can bring that rig down to its knees cos i have a pretty similar system. However, the witcher 2 with ubersampling is what puts the most stress IMO. Go for The Witcher 2 as it is a brilliant gameplay experience + those stunning visuals and a killer story.
Some other titles: Skyrim, Crysis, Stalker.
For a little "Noire" feel, you could also try Mafia II and LA Noire for PC.

Rage will eat your system alive if you set everything to max and enable the detail textures in the latest patch. Sad part is, it still looks worse than most games mentioned in this thread already.

Deus Ex Human Revolution is really good, it looks really pretty when cranked up to max.

Metro 2033 is impressive with real time lighting and is a decent linear shooter to boot.

The Witcher 2 is one of the most demanding games out there and story driven, although really frustrating in places, its graphics will test the limits of your rig.

That Hard Reset game was pretty damn good. I ignored it with all the average reviews, but yesterday I downloaded the demo from Steam and I was pleasantly surprised. This is why I love gaming forums, always find a hidden gem here and there. Thanks sic-klown!!!

Tried it, got 2-3 game breaking bugs within the first 2 hours of the game so I promptly uninstalled it.

Shame because the combat was fun.
