That's why. The first season on it's own just well...umm, isn't very good. All it does really is setup a lot of story that happens in the following three seasons. The second season is much better, although is still setting up the plot for the third and fourth seasons, which are really the core of the show.

So to the person that started this thread, if you just watch the first season of B5, you really haven't seen any of the show. Deciding that you don't like it at that point would be like reading Book 1 of Lord of the Rings and then deciding that you don't like LOTR. B5 is a 5-year story arc and it's meant to be viewed as such, although I admit that seasons 1 and 5 are more supplementary.

I got B5 and BSG confused. I haven't seen any of B5, and will look into it a bit more. I might look into BSG a little more, but I just couldn't get into it.

You should have polled this

Definetly watch Firefly (it's short and awesome)

Then I'd say check out Battlestar Gallactica (2005 edition)

Couldn't stand Babylon 5 or DS9 myself. Other than the costumes, I had trouble telling the series apart at times.

A strong recommendation for Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex. I am *NOT* a big anime fan and find most of it it boring and stupid, but 'Stand Alone Complex' is a superb exception.

The new Battlestar Galactica is also about as good as it gets, especially the opening mini-series and season one. I thought the series lost it's way during the second season and turned into more of a soap opera than sci-fi, but the last half dozen episodes of this past season restored my hope. In any case, Season 1 is exellent.

Others hated it, but I liked the first two seasons of 'Lexx', which the series was unfortunatley tarnished by a crappy season 4. If you liked the on going battle with the replicators on Star Gate, the last half of Season 2 of Lexx featured a similiar if not more diabolical opponent.

GITS SAC has immense amounts of expositional dialogue. You definitely gotta be in the right mood for it, IMO.

Season 1 was 4 movies, quite good in a twisted way.

Seasons 2-4 were a bunch of hour epsisodes that had way too much filler. I gave up on season 4, but 2-3 would be great if you throw out half of the episodes and edit down some of the others.

just though I'd bump this one more time, in case there's anything we're all missing here.

B5 was godawful... pretty much the only sci fi show myself and my wife both hated...

Watch Farscape-season 4 is just as good.. season 1 is the iffy one... skip the peacekeeper wars.

I agree with the new BSG and the 4400. There is also an older sci-fi show that aired on Fox called Space: Above and Beyond. It's a gritty, space battle show that follows a group of marine fighter pilots. The new BSG reminds me of that show.

In addition to everything mentioned here, First Wave is also pretty good, but damn near impossible to find. Likely, you'll have to record it off SciFi.

I don't know if DVD's were released for these 2 but watch Quantum Leap and Sliders (last season of sliders, when the main character is replaced, is pretty weak, though i never got to see the final episode and am still curious).

And a forgotten series that was fairly recently released on DVD is the Planet of the Apes TV series from the 70's. It's quite good, and has that 70's SF charm that classic Star Trek shares.

Farscape is great and one of my favorite shows ever. The new BSG is also really good. B5 is good, but mainly the end of season 2 to season 4. Season 1 was pretty bad imo.

Old & not exactly SciFi, but then again it sort of is: The Prisoner

SciFi laughs on DVD: MST3K episodes

Farscape starting getting eh... but BSG is absolutely excellent, one of the best shows I've seen in a while.

I thought that show was pretty bad... every episode the same thing happened and the plot ne ver went anywhere (discover conspiracy, stop conspiracy but lose proof, convert a few people which has no consequence on plot, repeat), not to mention the horrible pseudo-science.

Anyway I recommend B5. The first season is very slow and throughout the series corniness is abudant. But underneath that is a pretty good story arc. Season 3 and 4 are where it's really at but you NEED to watch pretty much all episodes before them because everything is connected.

The new Dr. Who for some wacky fun.

Might also wanna look into sci-fi novels.

Watch season 2. It's like watching a different show. Trust me.
