I'm looking for well written, captivating Science Fiction series that are readily avaiable on DVD. I liked ST: Voyager, Andromeda, and LOVE Stargate. I just bought the Earth Final Conflict DVD's, and was going to get the Dark Angel ones, but the series was never resolved. Any other recomendations as to good Science Fiction series, that were concluded (i.e. they had a series finale)?

I should also note that I am watching Eureka on SciFi as well as current episodes of Stargate SG1 and Atlantis.

Oh, and I just remembered that I watched all the Alias Episodes, and would be interested in similar shows, and also have the FireFly episodes downloaded and will be watching the shortly.

I've seen a few eps, and they were good, but i forgot about the series. The SciFi miniseries that tied up all the lose ends makes this a good candidate.

Watched the first season, and for some reason, I just didn't like it...its a great show, don't get me wrong, it just wasn't my thing.

ones that concluded could be any of the startrek one's or farscape (love this one), hum firefly kinda has an ending, kinda running short on any others...

It did, although after it changed, the new writers dramatically departed from the original story line, and the show got hugley f'd up. So badly, that the original head writer (Robert Hewitt Wolfe) ended up writing a one act play, that although never performed, shows what his original vision for the show was (it can be viewed here, as a PDF).

I already have it downloaded. After watching the movie Serenity, I wanted to see how the series was.

Babylon 5

Doctor Who - original series - favorites include City of Death, Shada (even though Tom Baker had to narrate a bunch of scenes that were never shot due to a labor strike in the middle of shooting), The Deadly Assassin, Caves of Androzani, the Three Doctors

Nowhere Man - it's a conspiracy show that was sci-fish at times. I'd say about 75% of it was good. The 3-4 episodes after the pilot were weak (with the exception of Spiders Webb), but it was pretty solid after that. Bunch of "wierd" comments by characters get explained in the final episode, so that provides a resolution of sorts for the series.

Battlestar Galactica (new series)

Farscape - had about as many bad eps as good ones, unfortunately. Still worth watching until the 4th season, where it sort of leaped over an aquatic sea predator, though.

Twilight Zone (of course!) - also the 1980s series. The one around 2001 sort of sucked, but at least track down "It's still a good life", which is a sequel to "It's a good life" from the original series

Outer Limits (mixed on the new series, but the original was pretty solid)

Red Dwarf - comedy in space

I like farscape because of scorpius. He's the fvcking coolest, most badass antagonist I've seen in a long time.

Scorpius was cool up until season 4. Having him in every ep proved that sometimes less is more. Pity, he was probably the best thing about that show.

Doctor Who, 1st series, kinda sorta has a resolution.

Seconded. That show rocks.

Thirded. The second new season has already finished airing on BBC so I would guess it will air here next year. If you thought the first season was good you're in for a treat because the second season is even better.

Ah...I haven't watched any of season 4...I wasn't around at the right times that year to catch it. I've gathered from elsewhere he ends up on moiya (sp?) or something? Which kind of sounds stupid.

My favorite episode is the one where he is telling about his paste. I liked it because it showed that for all his brutality and outward appearance of evil...he in fact was just motivated by somewhat noble or at least understable things.

That's why. The first season on it's own just well...umm, isn't very good. All it does really is setup a lot of story that happens in the following three seasons. The second season is much better, although is still setting up the plot for the third and fourth seasons, which are really the core of the show.

So to the person that started this thread, if you just watch the first season of B5, you really haven't seen any of the show. Deciding that you don't like it at that point would be like reading Book 1 of Lord of the Rings and then deciding that you don't like LOTR. B5 is a 5-year story arc and it's meant to be viewed as such, although I admit that seasons 1 and 5 are more supplementary.

Some good SF anime:
- RahXephon
- Crest of the Stars / Banner of the Stars / Banner of the Stars II
- Ghost in the Shell (movie), Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
- Witch Hunter Robin (fantasy with SF elements)

The new Dr. Who was good.

(edit) and yes, Bablyon 5 picks up after the first season. Remember the first 3-4 episodes of SG-1 were pretty bad too -- "Carter vs. the sexist pig planet!" gah!

Netflix is a good place to rent these, they carry most TV series discs.
