i want to play a good RPG right about now.

i enjoyed neverwinter nights, and its expansions.

no MMO's, please.

my system can handle pretty much anything thrown at it, so if it punishes the hardware, so be it!

thanks in advance guys

get Morrowind GOTY edition, apply 3rd party texture upgrade mods (to improve graphics), kiss your life goodbye for 2 months.

Can you play RPGs with magic 😉

I'm never really played a PC rpg beyond KOTOR, so taht gets reccomended. I also love the Final Fantasy series if you are looking for something more linear and a good story

Can you throw me a link ?

Do I have to install all 3 before the texture mods or can I play through each one ?

Have you tried any Neverwinter communtiy made mods?

Shadowlords is a great series.

actually i lost my discs and this is a fresh format, so i cant go back to NWN. 🙁

anything with NWN'esque style play?

Baldur's Gate 2 is one the best RPG's I have ever played and replayed and replayed and replayed and replayed, well you get the picture.

Another great RPG is Planescape: Torment, I loved that game from the begining and I started playing after I played BG 1 & 2 and Icewind Dale.

Agree with Morrowind and Kotor. I liked Morrowind so much, I bought it twice 😉. One time for xbox (when it was first released), then the GOTY for PC when I got my 6800GT.

As has been said many times already, Morrowind. KOTOR also seemed amazing, but I didn't get very far because I couldn't bring myself to finish the seweres near the beginning of the game.

Come to think of it I never beat Morrowind either. There are SOOOOOO many mods out there for the game, if you aren't careful you'll spend nearly a week trying to find all the best mods for it. By the time you're done, you either lost interest in the game or have changed the game so much it's barely Morrowind anymore heh.

I suck. =(

EDIT: I also couldn't fight off the temptation to cheat in Morrowind. It's too easy to do, and like always ruins the longevity of the game. With the use of a certain in-game bug, you can beat the entire game in about 15 minutes. =\ If you can resist using it, you'll have fun though. I intend to go back and beat it some day.

Baldurs Gate I & II
Planescape: Torment
Fallout I & II
Knights of the Old Republic I & II
Morrowind
Vampire: The Masquerade (sp?)

Here are my RPG recommendations:

2D, isometric view:

Fallout
Fallout 2
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast
Baldur's Gate 2
Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal
Icewind Dale
Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter
Icewind Dale 2
Planescape Torment

3D, first person view:

Morrowind (Can also be played in 3rd person view.)

3D, third person view:

Knights of the Old Republic

If you don't mind the 2D, isometric view and low resolutions, I'll specifically recommend the first Fallout, the first Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment. These 3 are on my personal '10 Greatest Games of all Times' list, from any genre. (This year I have already replayed Fallout I & II plus Baldur's Gate 2 with expansion.)

For the game with gameplay closest to Neverwinter Nights, you should get Knights of the Old Republic, as the engine looks similar (except the camera is lower to the ground) and since it uses a similar system (based on Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition). I enjoyed KotOR so much that I played it through 3 times, back to back, averaging about 45 hours each time.

Have fun with your choice 🙂

It's amazingly low key, but Sacred was an awesome game. I just finished it not too long ago. Very wonderful game.
Tas.

Other good RPGs are Gothic,Gothic 2,Arx Fatalis.

For Diablo type ones look for Divine Divinity,Sacred,Lionheart.

Don't forget Dungeon Lords is being released this month as well.

Stay away from Dungeon Lords. Not surprisingly it was released way too early, and is an even buggier mess than ToEE on its release. FWIW I did in fact like ToEE in spite of its problems.

For my $0.02 try and find copies of Fallout 1 & 2, then the Baldur's Gate series followed by Planescape: Torment.

With Vampire the Masquerade, you want Bloodlines, not Redemption.
