Good replacement for AdAware?

The only reason I am asking is because my AdAware has ceased to update. Upon retrieving the updates, it hits 5% and then encounters an error. I realize that the new AdAware is now only available if you buy it and I will not do that.

Any ideas are welcome. My time is limited and I am unable to do research while at home. I will try to check back in a few days, if my job does not get prolonged.

Thanks, last time I checked the Lavasoft website, it tried to make me pay for the upgraded 1.06 version of AdAware.

I have replaced Adaware and Spybot with SuperAntiSpyware. Great program. It has cleaned trojans from friends and co-workers computers that Norton, Adaware, and Spybot failed to remove.

I don't see any need for Ad-Aware, my "replacement" is to use the security features in Windows, as well as other security measures, to make antispyware apps unnecessary. Might not work for everyone, but it's working for me 😀

I thoroughly agree with you. Besides running Vista Ultimate 64 I am using the security measures in your "How to secure your Windows PC" guide, but there are a lot of people out their still using XP and picking up trojans, viruses, and adware.

When someone calls me and asks if I can look at their computer because its running slow or they are getting a ton of pop-ups, almost all of the time, it's because their computer is infected, even those with the latest AV programs installed.

Its one thing to run XP pro with a full software restriction policy using a non administrative account.

Except Microsoft failed to make that an options in XP home and Vista home basic.

But still, Vista is the more secure OS by in large. But sadly, many knowledgeable users still prefer XP.
I still hope microsoft can bring out a less bloated OS in its next attempt. And I think selling various
crippleware is a bad idea in any OS.
