like band of brothers, black hawk down, etc.

Looking for some good flicks to watch. Personally, i find them boring, so if there are some that are more Hollywood than history, i'm all for it :)

Not super recent...but The Thin Red Line was brilliant. Too bad Saving Private Schlockfest overshadowed it.

Thirded.

The Patriot was recent as well, and pretty good, but obviously it was about the revolutionary war, so its historical basis is not recent.

"We Were Soldiers" is BS. Read the book and know the full story. Hollywood made it look like a great victory...following the first few days we sent another brigade on a march to another DZ and they were slaughtered by the NVA.

It was a great victory...for the 1st Batallion, 7th Cav. 130 vs. 4000, and they held out. The movie makes it look like they did it on their own, which is impossible. Yes, they left out landing zone albany. Because that's an entirely different movie in itself.

I agree that the movie focused only on the one battle but it is a good military movie. The book is MUCH better than the movie (more than the typical book to movie type things). I've met General Moore, and he is a tough but nice old man (he has a house here in Auburn...I set up the meeting through his wife). I got him to sign 3 copies of his book and gave them as gifts to my father (Vietnam Vet), brother(ROTC), and future father-in-law(Vietnam Vet).

Yeah, the movie left out several important things...like the constant artillery fire and the required barrel replacement on those pieces.

I love reading WW2 history books by Ambrose, but never really have gotten interested in the Vietnam war. I've seen We Were Solders and enjoyed it...I'll have to check out the book now.

I think I'm one of the twenty or so people in the world that liked The Thin Red Line. I can see how most people really don't dig on the artsy-fartsy introspection stuff though.

Oh, ok. Like I said, I didn't know how old it is. I just saw it for the first time not more than a week ago.
