Seems like HostPC is having a pretty good sale on right now (ends 11/28), with double quotas. Definitely something I'm looking at, I'm used to cPanel however, and I'm worried that migrating my site over is going to be a bitch. I notice they don't allow phpBB, can you guys recommend some good and free/cheap alternatives to phpBB that allow me to migrate my current pos? I looked at vBulletin, but it's too expensive for me.

1and1 has been great. Maybe one of these days I'll actually put something up. I've been paying for years and I have nothing to show for it.

I've been with them for years and they're great!

Do they have customer support? How's the CPanel look? Screenshot?

I'd have to say HostPC support is nonexistant. I sent them a few presale questions 3-4 days ago and have yet to hear anything back. Supposedly they started offering ssh access, but I also see they've stopped that for now, but it is still showing as available on their site. Wanted to clear that up, but they don't respond. If they won't respond to a potential customer, what are the chances they will respond to you once they have your money?

I'm looking for a host that can offer 1-2GB of storage. Bandwidth is more or less a nonissue, I'm not going to be using even close to whatever is offered. SSH access is a must, as is the ability to host multiple domains. As this is for a couple personal sites that won't be viewed by anybody but friends/family likely, it isn't worth more than $5ish a month. Which should certainly be doable.

I've been happy with godaddy for just pure hosting. I get 1MB/1MB sustained. 2TB traffic and 100GB. Haven't pushed the limits by any means but it hasn't let me down.

Hey guys, I'm looking for a host with fast downloads. I want to host some files from 10 to 25 megs each on a redirect server. I may set up a mysql or python database in the future, but for now its mainly just files I can add through FTP. I've went to a lot of the sites, but no hard numbers on speed. I'd love to get somewhere around 800k or higher download speeds.

This is for a game server with not huge amount of traffic, so I don't think bandwidth will be an issue. The game runs on a gaming server, but the files for maps, etc will be downloaded to the players from this redirect server. On the high side I'd say around 5gb a month, but most likely lower.

Any input on those requirements?

Thank you

I would shy away from hostPC if I were you. I just cancelled my account there. They seem to have no idea what they are doing imo. They were double billing me and then gave me a hard time when I called them on it. I will say they did refund my money, but it was a pain. Oh also, they took my site offline because they claimed I didn't pay. I was like...no..actually now that I look I have been paying you twice a month for the last 2 months. Blah. Went with go daddy and have been much happier. Just my personal experience.

I just had a billing issue with them too, my CC said there was a charge, HostPC sent me an email saying declined, I got the HostPC email before I checked my CC (was only $3.65) so I paid again, declined again. HostPC support said "we don't know it didn't go threw on our end"

I ended up using Paypal and things are okay again. For $3.65 a month I have no complained, the billing snafu was kind of annoying, but besides that it's fast and I'm learning to love DirectAdmin.
