Good PSU

What's a good single 12v rail psu? I want to buy something that's not as expensive as the PCP&C 510. Basically I'm running a Vapochill XE and it doesn't agree well with dual 12v rail psu's. So I want to find one that has a strong SINGLE 12v rail.

I bought a new PSU a month ago (dual 12v rail Antec below) and am quite pleased with it. In my research, I looked at many models. If I remember correctly, the OCZ Powerstream series are single 12v rail units that got many great reviews.

I would recommend the Antec TruePower Series (not TruePowerII), but they're basically all gone now. Matbe find a 2nh hand one.

Zippy one or OCZ powersream/modstream are the best performers....Seasonic & Evermax are ok too.as is Tagan.

I think for that price I'd just get a PCP&C 510. I was looking for something along the lines of $100 or so.

3.3V@30A, 5V@30A, 12V1@26A,12V2@20A.

Yes I know you said single 12 rail. The way this fine PSU is set-up, the 12V1 will deliver 39A
but both lines combined can never exceed 40A.

If you think the price is too high, Froogle it and you will see what a bargain this is.

Call on the toll free line, talk to George. Tell'em John that just bought the HG-2 6400P last
month set you. Be nice and ask if he'll knock off $10 because he just might.

OCZ Modstream/Powerstream is your best bet.
Don't listen to Galvanized, he's just a hater. 😛

Yeah, guess I'm just an uneducated hater. Zippy/Emacs is just a POS PSU.

OP, get the OCZ after you read the linked THG stress test of it........Good luck..

You are going to be hard pressed to find better than that Zippy I linked for clean, stable,
12V@39A@50C constant. Like full load man!
To keep the stock fan from ramping up a fan can be placed at the intake grill inside the rig.
I've done that on two builds. It will help keep the left side of the PSU cool and that is where
the thermistor is bonded into the heatsink. This thermistor is what controls the fan speed.

I've seen that THG review linked numerous times, and it's info should be taken into account. But there ar hundereds of posters on this board that have a Powerstream/modstream, and love them.
IMO, OCZ makes very good quality PSU's, but like every other company, no matter how good you are, you will still produce a few lemons. Plus OCZ's warranty support is very good.

lol, so it seems like the ocz powerstreat 520 is a pretty good psu. I really wanna find some ppl with that sintek 500 watt modular psu. It has a real strong 12v rail. (30-35A). And it can be had for around $120 or so.

This is ridiculous. As long as it is getting power the Vapochill has no clue whether its source has 1 or 2 12V rails. I dont care if you are running a Vapochill setup, there is NO WAY it will draw more than 18A on a 12V rail...hell i would be suprised if it pulled more than 8A.

Take a look at the Seasonic, Tagan, Fortron, Antec, OCZ....

For single rail, Zippy is about the only one that still holds true to it. They are by far one of the best manufacturers. OCZ is an enthusiast brand PSU, Zippy is an INDUSTRIAL brand. There is no comparison (Same with PCP&C, you really cant compare them).

Once again, there is no reason to get a single rail PSU, for that setup I would probably look at the Seasonic S12 500Watt, or any nice fortron unit. You shouldn't need anywhere close to 500Watt for that setup so i wouldn't go wasting your money and getting a 600 Watt Behemoth.

OCZ's are rebranded Topower units manufactured to OCZ specs which are quite high. So is Tagan a rebranded Topwer. The 600W OCZ has dual 12v rails, the smaller ~500W unit has a single 12v rail. The only reason you would need a single 12v rail is if you are running something like dual Xeons as they could overwhelm the allowable on a split rail.
