good printer/scanner/copier?

The Canon MP780 is on sale this week at FRy's electronic for $150. after rebates. Its a great bargain but well North of $100.
You can get some HP and other models all in ones for South of $100.----but can't think of one that won't have extracted the
$50. initial purchase price savings from you in ink in less than three months.---and really nail, you on the second cartridge change--and the next........

I cannot stress this strongly enough-----the MP780 and other non-chipped Canons using the BCI-3&6 cartridge line start out as the most economical inkjet printers on the planet--comparing OEM cartridge use to OEM cartridge use. And then easily allow you to save by up to a factor of 15x if you refill and up to 7x if you use third party cartridges.

And the most economical HP and Lexmark inkjet printers using OEM to OEM cartridge comparisons come in as Twice as expensive in ink consumable costs---and you don't want to even know how bad they will be in some of the less economical printer engines you are likely to get in a less than $100 for an all in one.----------the really rip off ones have up 10x the OEM cartridge ink consumable costs compared to something like a MP780.

I own a MP730---sorta a one generation back MP780 and it mainly lacks the photoblack cartridge--so its a four color and not a five color printer--but that difference only becomes apparent when I use it for photoprinting---in which case I will use my wifes Canon ip4000----which is the printer engine in the MP780.

But I refill both printers, my ink consumable costs are less than a third of a cent for a plain text black page------but you can find many all in ones around a $100. that can cost you thirty cents for that same page.-----and more for color.--------when you talk an 8x 10 color photoprint----I still way under a dime---and under a cent for most plain paper color.

I don't have enough room for the 780 anyway.
I was at OM the other day looking at a Brother 420CN: OMG it's wonderful -- <$100, tiny, ethernet, fax, card readers, sheet feeder, great menu design BUT unfortunately the reviews say it's slow as hell. except I'm still considering it because there's this one ZDnet review that seems to show it being faster than the Canon MP130 which is supposed to be "very fast" so I dunno.....

I have to confess some ignorance on brother printers. At least they are unchipped and most seem to have the printhead not on the cartridge itself which is also positive. But the photoprinting crowd does not seem to register brother printers as even on the radar screen.

While I may not trust a ZDNET review, I am eagar to hear from actuals users.
