Good price on Onkyo S580 and S780 models (Refurb)

Link

I got a refurbished S780 HTIB system from ShopOnkyo, and it looked brand new to me. You couldn't even tell it was refurbished.

HT-S580 5.1 system can be had for 179.95 - 10% off coupon (search around you'll find it) -$10 for registering = $151.96

HT-S780 $349 - 10% off -$10 = $304.10.

Great reviews from Circuit City, EOpinions, ShopOnkyo, and other places as well!

Edit: I don't know if they're still doing this, but when I signed up at their website, they gave me an additional $10 bucks off my order as well. Worth looking into.

Just as a note for everyone- the S780 is not just a 7.1 version of the S580, but has much larger drivers in the sats, particularly the fronts.

I got a refurb from Onkyo about 3 yrs ago..I cant recall the exact model...but I love it..I would highly recommend therre stuff

my refurb sure looked new as well..but it has refurb stickers on some of the speakers

My S760 is refurbished...and its very reliable. While I upgraded my speakers, the Onkyo receiver (equivalent to the 502/503) is still running, no problems. The receiver that comes packaged with the S780 is worth the money by itself.

Nice deal. 😀

I googled for the coupon code but had no luck.
If anyone has it, if they could pm me, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

Last time it was a 20% code.

Can't post here what the code was, but it was either for 20% off of Home Theater....or it was for a Home Theater system for 20% off 😉

Might still work or may be some variation with 10 in place of 20.

Hope it works....

That code (aytch tee 20) does not work, I tried it. Must have expired last year. The other code that I found (first syllable of President Bush) does not work either.

i have the s780, and this thing rocks for the $$$. hard to beat at that price. if you do purchase it, upgrade the speaker wire to 16ga. and replace the subwoofer cable. also, calibrating the system when you get it setup makes a world of difference. the subwoofer should not be run hot (should be set on the receiver to 0 and the gain on the sub should be at 12:00). also, if your tv supports it, run optical cables for true digital suppport. after i calibrated my system, it went from sounding really good to amazing (my cousin spent much more money on his 5.1 setup, and he was in awe of how good this setup sounds).

No, they offer that set in silver too. I just called and the "oh so helpful" lady on the other end informed me they have no stock of silver sets at the moment, but have in the past. That lady sounded like she was in another world....top notch customer service FTW!

What color did you get OP?

I got black, it seems like silver's pretty hard to get. I would've liked a silver set myself.

S780 owner here, and this system absolutely rocks. I am using the 3 opticals for XBox360, HDTV Cable Box, and from my DVD player. All it needs is multiple DVI inputs and a DVI output (or better yet, make that multiple HDMI inputs and an output). Now that'd be nice for the price. Xbox 360 Component/Optical to S780 receiver (receiver to Sharp Aquos 32" LCD) , HDTV cable box to DVI on Sharp Aquos and optical to S780, Samsung DVD HDMI to HDMI on Sharp Aquos optical to S780 is my setup. Need another DVI or HDMI for my MCE HTPC. Using 16ga wiring.

I bought this from Fry's when it was on sale for $399 but it was hard to find a silver one. It seems to go on sale about every 2 months so it's due to run again soon. Sound wise this system is every bit as good as any $1000+ system I've heard. The speaker cabinets are kind of cheap particle board boxes but for the price I don't mind.

I also got this at Fry's when it was $399, I asked if they had silver, and the guy pulled out their last silver set for me from the back! I was sooooo stoked. I LOVE these!!!

Aarggh... wish I would've came across this last week. I found info on the 10% discount code (had to do with the season), but it ended on 3/31. Oh well...

I'm looking for a silver S780, too, so it'd be real nice if silver refurbs become available at shoponkyo the same time a new discount comes out. I picked up a refurb S570 last year for under $150, and it's been awesome, no troubles at all. I've just 'outgrown' it and am ready to upgrade to the better speakers, component vid, and extra SPDIF inputs of the S780.

im 100% sure that coupon code is on the www.shoponkyo.com website under the SPRinG clearance link on the upper right hand corner of the homepage.

I signed up for their website for this onkyo club and got 10 more bucks off.
