Good price for this PSU for my watercooled X2 4400+

I am slowly getting my system together, LOL.

I will order my 4400+ and probably 7800 at the end of July to complete my X2 system.

I was at http://www.xoxide.com to order some watercooling stuff (Koolance replacement liquid blah blah) and came across the Seasonic 600watt S12 for 139 for 139.00

Good deal? I am looking for PSU for between 130 and 190 tops. PC&P is just too high to justify even for my X2😛.

How about the Enermax 600W NoiseTaker which is at the outer limit of my budget for 189.00

I may or may not go SLI/Crossfire but I am definitely overclocking the X2 and videocard(s) (whichever I choose) and I want this PSU to last.

Thanks ladies and gentemen for your responses ahead of time

Yep, that's a very good price. I paid $165 for mine, but only because I had to buy it in a retail store (since my old PSU was just about to send my whole computer up in flames 😛)

The Seasonic S12's are excellent. Virtually silent. The most energy efficient psu available. And from the review's I've read, the rails have shown to be rock stable. Can't go wrong. I know eWiz on occassion will have it for $130+ shipping.

If you're looking for a very quiet PSU, go with the Seasonic over the Noisetaker. That's the best price I've seen so far. The only possible hitch I see is that there are two versions of the S12-600, and the specs Xoxide gives match the new version while the box in the picture lacks the stickers indicating SLI support and a new fan. They've got a good reputation, though, so I would guess they're just using the old photo.

Directron sells the FSP-550, 24 pin PSU for 79 dollars. It is VERY highly rated on numerous sites. It's two 12 volt lines are the same as the Enermax 600 watt PSU. The FSP is rated at a higher temperature as well. The operating range for the FSP is 10C. higher than the advertised range for the Enermax unit, and the FSP is Pre-burned in at 50C, which is beyond the reccomended range for the Enermax.

The hold-up time for the FSP is also better, indicating a slightly larger reserve at full power, which normally contributes to stability under extreme conditions.

The Enermax is very strong on the 5.0 and 3.0 volt lines, and that can be good on certain nForce4 boards which have the option of using the 5.0 volt for RAM. Pick wisely, because 80 bucks is a lot of cash when compared to pretzels and beer.

600Watt psu for a AMD rig? 😉 Even if u go for Crossfire u wont need more than 450Watt.

I know that but what about the next upgrade? Overclocked 4400+, watercooling, one or two overclocked watercooled video cards, raptor, 2 other hard-drives, burners does add up.

The drives don't use much power in the scheme of things, but video cards CERTAINLY do. My OC'ed gaming setup pulls 280 watts from the wall. It peaks higher, but steady state gaming it's about 280 watts (give or take).

Seasonics are so overpriced, there are better choices for the money.

Well, if you after a quiet PSU, Seasonic is a way to go. Otherwise, a cheaper PSU might be an option - but only if it's a good brand. 😀

I have to agree. If you need a very solid power supply that makes hardly any noise, Seasonic, while expensive, is worth every penny.

I have an older Seasonic, the 400W Super Tornado (predecessor to the S12) and in my opinion Seasonic makes the best PSU available.

It may not have the snazzy features of some other units, but they put the deisgn effort where it counts (efficiency, quietness, able to handle voltage spikes).

I think the 600W unit is a bit overkill, and would probably recommend the 450W version, but I highly recommend Seasonic.

-D'oh!

why get the 600w? thats wayyyy to much power...just get a Seasonic S12 500W or an OCZ Powerstream 620w....i got the Seasonic 500W and Love it cuz its very quiet and thats what i was looking for but i think that OCZ or Seasonic are great choices....

I getting a S-12 600W for a similar system (don't know wetehr I'll spend the money on watercooling though.)

Currently running a Seasonic Super Tornado 400W

Just to state my personal preference is for Tagan.

Tagan 530W U22
- 3 year warranty
- silent
- fan placement fits perfectly/better in all cases inc P180 ie is not at the bottom of the PSU
- incredible quality and stability on the rails - they even have gold connectors & a grounding wire?!
- single rail 32A +12V, 48A on +5V - very impressive specs. (the +12V can be split do dual-rails if so inclined)

The only difficulty is getting them cheaply in the US if that's where you're from as their a Germany start up. I think they might sell under ePower Tagan name
