I'd hate to recommend something with the brand "Audiovox" on it, but....

Audiovox has a well rated player that is under $200 for a 5" screen and just under $300 for an 8" screen.

Supposedly Polaroid has an 8" model for about $250, but I haven't heard anything about it.

I'm interested in picking up one as well. From what I've seen price-wise, Sam's Club & Costco seem to do much better than the Best Buy's and such.

I won a Polaroid at my company's Xmas party last year. Nice player, and has been going strong for almost a year now. The battery life leaves a little to be desired, but I think all portables have only about a 2.5 hour battery life. I see no reason to avoid a Polaroid.

Or price match Sam's, Costco or Best Buy at Circuit City and get better customer service. ;)

You know they replaced my mini-DV for eating tapes 6 months after I bought it? Sharper Image did the same with a mini-LCD monitor I bought there, so maybe that's what retailers are SUPPOSED to do, but I know that companies like Sams, Costco and Best Buy don't, so I try to deter people from going there. ;)

I bought an Initial 8" player from Circuit City about a year ago and I haven't had any problems with it. It's a great player for the money.

After looking around, I think I'm going to get this one. It's a killer screen, good battery life, and support composite input. All the reviews I've seen rank it very high, and even its predecessor, the SD-P2000 ranks up there as CNET's editor's choice.

Kind of expensive at ~$300, but really not that much more than ones I saw at Best Buy.

Costco has the best customer service! If you don't like the product for any reason, you can take it back. I've never had an issue with returns/exchanges there. By far the best return policy I have ever seen.

Ok. I have to admit that I've had no problems with Cosco. But Best Buy and Sam's/Walmart, I've had problems returning DEFECTIVE merchandise WITH a receipt, so I'm still going to keep them on the crap list. ;)
