Time of the year would probably be around the middle of March.

Ideas, suggestions, comments? Looking at Hawaii, but would like to fancy other ideas as well. Any suggestions for the Medditeranian?

Ha ha, just what I was thinking. If you're planning this far in advance, why not just have a normal marraige? Doesn't have to be big...

Elope as just the two of us and no family. Elope in that sense, not the "hey let's get married tomorrow even though we've known each other two weeks!" sense.

Make that three of us. 😕

I'll opine as to why they are "planning to elope."

1. Their families don't approve of the marriage
2. The families are stumbling, raving lunatics and they don't want any of them at a formal wedding
3. Notice "the family" theme?
4. It's the families' fault

Am I right?

U.S. Virgin Islands are good. My wife and I went there for our honeymoon. No passport worries, no money conversion worries, and no marriage certificate worries. Lots of sun, sand, and water plus cheap booze.

well, you can probably elope anywhere you want to, there are justices of the peace everywhere. I guess it might be harder to get a marriage certificate at the last minute in every state. Then again, if you are planning this far in advance, you could probably arrange for that.

I think any island location would be romantic. Maybe something in the Carribean? Or you could do a Bonnie and Clyde thing and escape to Mexico and then get married there. That would be cooool.

Can I ask why you don't want family at your wedding?

Nah. We had some pseudo plans figured out for a "real" wedding with family and whatnot set for June. Several planning issues have arisen and some family members are grumbling since it was going to be held in her home town which is 800 miles from where most of my family is. Lot's of uncertanties as far as when things were going to happen, how many people to plan for, who was actually going to do the wedding, ect ect ect. It's just frustrating. My parents pretty much told me just elope and have a reception at the time we were originally planning on having the wedding. Her dad pretty much said the same thing.

It's an elope in the sense that we are flying down to some remote place and doing it without any family of any sort. Not an elope in the sense that we are doing it behind people's back and in secrecy.

Let's Elope

I'd suggest Cuba or Croatia.

Another vote for USVI you do need a marriage certificate which usually means sending $50 for it 4-6 weeks beforehand. Passport is not necessary but it will make it much easier when you come back.

I second all of the above. Wife and I spent our honeymoon in St Thomas and St John. Perfect "non-sightseeing" vacation spot IMO. We figured we'd have plenty of time in the future for vacations with an "agenda" so to speak, so we wanted somewhere relaxing where we could just be together.

I even have a (small) photo from the highest point in St John uploaded. 🙂

I said Croatia this morning 🙂

I was in Croatia last February and it was great especially the coast. The cheapest way to get to Croatia
would most likely be to find a cheap ticket to London then fly go, ryan or another airline to Trieste which
is at the top of the adriatic in Italy. then take a bus or car down the coast. If you need more info LMK.

Yeah, my friend went to Croatia for New Year's, said it was awesome.

My ex and I were going to elope to an island in the Caribbean. A lot less work & money than a real wedding, but still takes work, thanks to the Geneva Convention.

What would be the easiest way to get down to the Virgin Islands? Fly straight down there? Fly into Miami and then take a cruise ship down?

daamn. very nice pic. that looks beautiful

Yeah, sorry it's so small. St John is neat since it's about 90% undeveloped. We did a hike from near where the photo was taken down to the remains of an old sugar cane plantation on the coast and I was amazed at the sheer volume of wildlife there. You almost couldn't take a step without 5 small critters scurrying out from under your foot (though not too many snakes thanks to the mongoose that were imported to the islands). It's really amazing.

Vi: I have more pics I can scan later if you're interested (assuming I can find them 😱 )
