Gamespot really depends on the reviewer. Some of them don't like any Xbox game period. Some give fair reviews. I would double check at least 3 review sites before I decided. Check out IGN and Gamespot, but balance that out with reviews on Game Rankings. That should give you a good idea of what to get.

gamespot sometimes does good reviews, if you go to neoseeker.com, and click the xbox link then they have a list of games you can select and each game that has reviews is linked to the sites that gave the review.

I kinda like GameSpy for some quick and dirty low-brow impressions of a game :)

Also, check here. A lot of people talk about console games. Did you have questions about a particular game?

Just wanted to look into some more good games for the system I just bought. I'm currently playing Splinter Cell on my own and when friends are over we generally play DOA3. I don't have any other games other than what came with the system.

A couple I was thinking of were:

1. Hunter: The Reckoning
2. A NFL game
3. A NHL game
4. Amped

Any recommendations...or not on these?

Everything I have read about Amped is that it is a very good game. I have a copy on the way. You can find it for $15-20 nowadays, so it is worth picking up just to check out.

As for NHL/NFL, are you planning on playing online? Also, I don't know anything about Hunter: The Reckoning.

1. Fun to play with others
2. NFL2K3 if you want to play online via Live. Madden if not. (EA's NCAA 2003 is the best football game IMO though)
3. NHL2K3
4. Best snowboard game for the X-Box right now (until the next batch comes out).

Online is not really all that important. I will probably be playing more with friends at the house. I coach a varsity soccer team and we have the guys over for dinner once a week, so sports games will be played a lot. I love snowboarding and heard Amped was awesome...will definitely pick it up if it is that cheap. I have played Ice Hockey my whole life, so I will definitely be interested in what you guys have to say on different NHL type games.

Thanks

Actually had some fun with JSRF with 4 players. Also, hook up to Live and play MotoGP (demo is on the Live disc) online with 3 guests....those friends of yours that have never been online with so many other players should be quite amazed :)

One thing I have to admit... is I'm a graphics whore...that is why I bought the xbox in the first place. How do the graphics compare on the Sega vs. the EA sports games. Are the better graphics worth if one does have better graphics?

I'll probably pick up Amped on the way home from work today if I can find it. Are there any other really good bargain bin games?

Ehhh...they are about even but I might give a slight edge to Sega for the NFL games. For NHL and NBA, Sega all the way.

Other good bargain bin games:
Buffy
Robotech: Battlecry
Project Gotham Racing
Gunvalkyrie (good for the cheap price)
Max Payne (if you haven't played it on the PC already)
Oddworld: Munch's Odyssey
Phantom Crash
The Thing
Jet Set Radio Future

My favorite is gamingnexus.com...they used to be gamepen, but they had a falling out with UGO thus the name change--they are still building their review section, however...what ever you do, stay away from Gamespot--their console reviews are horrid. They have a tendancy to reward games based on hype alone--I'd trust IGN (who tend to always rate a point or two high) ten times more then them...

As far as football--NFL2K3 is the greatest football game I've ever played. It is heavily focused on play calling and difficult enough that I haven't even dared play it on XBL past a single scrimmage :) The game is brutal, but the most rewarding football game I've ever played.

Most Gamespot reviewers give Xbox games low scores no matter what just becuase they have something against the Xbox however if the game happened to be a PS2 exclusive, they would have given it a high review. Most their reviews are ok and since I pay $20 a year to be a member because I want access to download demos and patches without having to look for a free download, of course I rely on their reviews more than anything. The discriptions they give in their reviews are usually good, just take their opinions with a grain of salt.

I have been a member of the teamxbox forums for a long long time (under another account). My name is Staples there too. The forums there have always been very active and the mods keep it clean.

gamerankings.com is a place to find the averege score of all reviews.

another vote for gamespot, ign is too focused on making money.
Despite IGN having a lot of ads, at least they give fair reviews. Gamespot is so biased that they look like a bunch of fanboys nowadays.

Oh and you can check out Official Xbox Magazine. Despite being a print mag, their reviews are often out before or at least the same time as internet reviews. The mag is worth it for the DVD it comes with alone.

I couldn't agree more. Be sure to check out Ghost Recon and MechAssault. Those are currently my two favorite games (on ANY platform.)

Well I went ahead and picked up Amped and Rallisport Challenge. I wanted to get Hunter the Reckoning, but they were out of it at the Best Buy I went to and I couldn't make my mind up between NHL 2K3 or Madden 2003. I ended up getting the other two becaue I got them both for $50 bucks when I would have paid the same amount for either of the sports games. I will probably make another game run in the next few weeks for both Hunter the Reckoning and Madden or NHL. Until then, I think I'll have plenty to do.

I couldn't resist Rallisport Challenge because it seemed to get a ton of good reviews, has great graphics, and I wasn't that excited about having Sega GT 2002 as my only racing sim for the near future...and at $29 bucks...it was hard to pass up. I think I'll really enjoy that one.

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm definetly loving the Xbox.
