Good Piano-like Keyboard?

My GF is an excellent piano player but due to her love for me she is moving away from home (and her grand piano) 2000 miles to where I live. She will be moving into a small apt and cannot bring her piano. I want to buy her a really nice piano-like keyboard for her when she gets here in summer.

I know nothing of this market. Any recommendations?

Thanks,
jst0ney

edit:

Text I guess NSFW (even though its fake).

edit #2:

If you're looking to spend ~$1000, the Yamaha 'P' line is your best bet. I have a P-90. The action (the feel of the keys, so to speak) is as realistic as you are going to get in that price range, yet it is still nothing next to a real piano. By the way, anything below $1000 is not worth considering... except perhaps the P-60, but that one is ugly. By the way, although "piano player" is technically sensical, it is still rather obtuse. Use "pianist".

Thanks. See I know nothing. For the record my GF is a excellent pianist.

My only experience with such a keyboard was the Alesis QS8 synthesizer (the 88 weighted key version of course) I played in high school. I'm sure there are better ones out there, but I think you can get the QS8.2 (the newest revision) for $999 or so these days. It doesn't have built-in speakers, so you'd have to run it through an amp or something. I loved playing that thing though. :)

No one said she wasn't. Uh... is there something I'm missing here? Are you lying about having a pianist girlfriend? Are you actually buying this keyboard to smack it with syrup covered waffles? Whatever.

Hmmm my friend has a fullsize grand piano for $25k or so. He says his friend has a $30k keyboard.

You should probably go and try some out with her. I don't have much experiance with using electronic keyboards, but getting the right feel on any piano keyboard is important. I've played on some pretty crappy grand pianos as well as great ones. so ya, definitly get her opinion.

i have a digital piano. cost me a grand, but allowed me to keep playing the piano in my apartment. if she is serious about playing, a real digital piano with weighted 88 keys is the best option.

Yamaha and Roland are the two reliable brands for heavy duty electronic keyboards. You're lucky to have a woman that is willing to make that sacrifice. I hope you appreciate it and demonstrate it in your actions. Good luck!

goddamn man, i didn't need to see that pic.

as a musician, let me say this: don't surprise her with this. tell her you are going to buy one for her and have her come along and play them. what matters most is how they feel to HER fingers, and if you're not a good player, there's no way to tell what she's going to like. nothing is worse than having someone spend a crapload of dough on a thoughtful gift that isn't actually suited to your tastes. BTW, you'll be looking at digital pianos, probably. they look like little upright pianos. they go to the floor instead of sitting on stands. stands suck.

dangit dude. I read your edited post before I read any others. I was thinking the picture was going to be of your gf's grand piano or something and I see that instead.

Good call its from the Crossing Jordan set when I took my GF on a Vip tour of Universal Studios. It is not very realistic. I've disected cadavers and the human body looks nothing like that inside.
