Good operating temp for Western digital Black 1 tb??

I have the 7200 RPM "black" edition Western Digital HDD, with 1 Tb space on it.

My temps are as follows:

A few minutes after I push power button : 26 C
Idle, desktop, random internet browsing : 30-35 C (mostly hovers around 31-32)
After a few hours of gaming : 38-41 C

I notice as soon as I exit a game or quit playing, the temperature normalizes and goes back down to 33-35 C

Are these temps normal? Should I be concerned?

thanks for your input

According to the data sheet for the Black drives the operating temperatures are 5c to 55c or 0c to 60c depending on the capacity. Either way, your temperatures are well within that.

As far as I remember. My 1Tb Western Digital Black, was giving very similar temperatures, to yours. Which I think are normal.

Hi there.

These are pretty good temps for a hard drive - basically speaking the ideal for a HDD between is 30-40 C.

You can take a look at the spec sheet of the drive as well - the temps there are between 5-55C/0-60C while operational and -40 to 70 when not, like @Coup27 wrote.

Hope this helps.

Cheers! 🙂

My 1TB seagate govers around 40C as well during use. It goes to the low 30's when idle. But unlike its bigger cousin it never gets all that hot. The 1.5TB drive using 5 platters work at over 60C and hits 70C after an hour of use.

You should really consider installing a fan in the front of your case.

My NAS is expanding its RAID6 from 4 HDD to 5 HDD so the HDD is working hard at the moment. Max temp is 37C/99F. This is for WD enterprise 4TB drives. It has been running for 17 hrs.
