Hmmm, my dad just offered me [4] 9 GB 7200RPM SCSI drives for my old 75GXPs. Would adding these 4 with the 2 15K RPM Cheetahs complicate matters?

Apex you have PMs turned off? :( I was wondering how much better ATTO ExpressPCI UL3S is, I don't plan to do RAID 0. I was just going to use them seperately....

Sorry about that. It's turned on now.

I'm using the UL3D with 3 X15's right now, though I've used the UL3S as well (with 2 X15's). This is with the first gen drives.

Benchmark

With the X15-36LP's you'll be doing much better. The performance is incredible, absolutely worth the few dollars difference.

Oh yeah, and for cooling, I'd suggest a coolermaster DCD-4002. It's the only one available that will quiet down the drive while still providing the cooling necessary for 15k rpm. I de-volted the fan in mine down to 5v and it still keeps the drive WAY under the 55 degrees C limit (specified by Seagate). This makes the fan completely silent while the enclosure helps muffle the sound of the drive. The drive stays about 37-40 degrees C max.

You can find those coolers for $20 plus shipping here:

PUiCorp

To find it, just do a search for:

Sweet, thanks for the explanation.

BBL, running the IBM Drive Fitness Test to see if I can get a week or so more out of this 75 GXP. Performance right now is down right rotten, it took 30 seconds to rename a damned bookmark.

Just got back, IBM Disk Fitness reports both drives have bad sectors and gives me an RMA number. Bought them both at the same time, both lasted 1.5 years and now both are failing... hrm. Now I gotta figure out where to put 40 GB of personal data before these drop down dead.

Heh... got all my data onto D:. While D: is losing data also, it doesn't seem to worsen unless something is being written. So I'm just going to play games all night and leave D: alone until I can get new HDs. This is such a pain :). Hopefully I will order those SCSIs Sunday if all goes as planned.
