Strategy Informer: What is the underlying ethos behind Good old Games?

Lukasz Kukawski: Good Old Games is a digital distribution platform dedicated to classic PC games. What is different about GOG.com and other services, aside of the games catalogue, is that we offer DRM-free games. This means after you buy a game on GOG.com you can download it as many times as you want, install it on all computers that you own, burn it to CD and play it without having an internet connection. It's like a CD version of the game, but without the CD...

Strategy Informer: What games to consider ?old? enough to feature in your catalogue? What?s your cut-off point?

Lukasz Kukawski: As for how old game should be to appear on GOG.com, there's no specific rule for it. Simply saying we release games that aren't new, so don't expect the new Dawn of War or Empire Total War. The shelves in game stores are too short to have all games on them, that's why a game that is 6 months old is sometimes hard to get. We want to offer games that are hard or even impossible to find in retail...

Strategy Informer: What are your thoughts on DRM?

Lukasz Kukawski: We are all gamers at GOG.com and frankly saying we hate DRMs implemented in games. We don't think DRM is the best way to fight piracy. You won't find any copy protection that haven't been broken, so this won't stop pirates from getting the games the illegal way. DRM is more of an obstacle for legitimate buyers than people who pirate games, because if you get the pirated version you'll get it stripped from all forms of copy protection and you can do with the game whatever you want.

But if you've bought the game legally then you have to register the game on-line, play it on specific number of computers, install some additional trash-software, etc... And that's not helping. We think that the best way to fight piracy is to offer good games in a reasonable price with cool additional content.

It's a pretty good interview. Read the rest here: http://www.strategyinformer.co...-informer-talks-to-gog

Meaning to get Freespace 2, but too much of a back log of other games. Hell, I just finished replaying Half Life + Opposing Forces.

I bought FreeSpace 2 from GoG, and I have to say that the experience was a good one. I would like to do business with them again, but they no longer offer Operation Flashpoint for some reason. (The only other game they had that I wanted to get).

No Planescape: Torment yet, unfortunately.

Games I would *love* to see on GOG:

Planescape: Torment
Baldur's Gate series
System Shock 2
Thief Series

I would happily buy every single one of those games within 5 minutes of them being available.

I'm buying Far Cry as soon as it shows up on the site. I lost my disc a few years ago, but for $9.99 and no DRM it won't be a big deal for me to purchase it again.

I reccomend Freespace 2 to anyone. And the graphics, while obviously they show age, look really good for how old they are.

The site says all games have been made playable on XP and Vista, does anyone know if widescreen monitor support has been added as well? I wouldn't mind picking up the Redneck Rampage package but I'm wondering how the graphics will look on a 1920x1200 monitor.

Then grab the SCP build and media vps and that'll bring it up to date :)

Definitely another vote for System Shock 2 and the entire Thief series. Thief 2 was such a brilliant game.

Yeah, SS2 and Thief have issues with current video cards so it'd be nice to have a version that works well with that.

I even thought about buying duke3D since I think I lost my old CD and would rather play it in windows now anyway. If only they had blood!

Same here. Actually, all but Planescape as I already have those running with all the community fixes and whatnot. http://www.shsforums.net/index.php?showtopic=35985
